Ranking Blade Sharpness

I received a sample pack of blades and I'm trying to rank the sharpness....

The Platinum sampler is a huge sample pack that includes the following:

Astra Superior Platinum (5 blades)

Crystal (10 blades)

Derby Extra (5 blades)

Dorco 301 (10 blades)

Feather Hi-Stainless (10 blades)

Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge (5 blades)

Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (1 blade)

Iridium Super Stainless (10 blades)

Indian Wilkinson (by Gillette) (4 blades)

Sharp Stainless (5 blades)

Shark Super Chrome (5 blades)

Shark Super Stainless (5 blades)

Wilkinson Classic (Germany) (5 blades)

Zorrik (5 blades)

Out of this whole list, I only want blades sharper than the Derby Extra, since Derby isn't sharp enough for me and I'm trying to go up in steps based off sharpness (needless to say, I'm not quite there for Feathers yet

Any help would be appreciated.

Well I don't know enough to rank them all, but I can tell I think the worst on your list are the Zorrick blades.

Although not quite as sharp as Feathers, I have had great luck with Shark Super Stainless. They are extremely sharp but smooth and comfortable.

+ to the above, Astras are my blade of choice, sharp and smooth. Only blade i've never nicked myself with too *looks for wood to knock on*

I have only tried 4 blades so far but i would rank them thus 1 feather 2 isreali personna 3 derby 4 wilkinson sword. Number 1 being sharpest.

+1

I have the same sample pack, using an adjustable slim set on 3, I started out with the Wilkinsons next the Derby Extras . Derbys were sharper did a good job but I went to the Feathers. MUCH Better. (Sharper) I'm havent tried the personna yet..And may not have too:thumbup1:

Personna still gives a very good shave but so far the feather is the one for me. Having said that i had to use a derby the last two shaves in my new slant bar as the feather was just too much for now.

"Feathers" for me.... n°2, but not on your list, would be "Kai's"...

Good luck with your "sharpness hunting":lol::lol:

Thanks to Frank in Antwerp for that link for kai's. Going to order some for sure, i had read about them on this forum now to try them out.

I used Derby blades for a couple of years and around the end of last year I ordered 50 Kai's and 50 Feathers and I would have to say that they are both close in sharpness with each other! I actually have a little more of a fondness for the Kai blade but I like the Feathers also! Both great SHARP blades!

I have Derby and Shark Super Stainless. They both give me great shaves. I can crank up the aggression with the Derbys. Sharks work very well in a mild razor.
I have a few Bic blades that give me a BBS shave, even with a Shaving Factory TTO(Ming Shi?) razor. Very mild razor.
I think I need to try some Feathers.

I've used Derbys for a while now and have started to experiment a bit. I haven't tried all the blades in your sampler pack, but I would say that Feathers and Super Iridiums are sharper for me. Astras are a little bit sharper as well. If I were you I'd give them all a spin. YMMV is something you see around here a lot because it's true.

After several posts on this board, the general consensus was that one of my biggest issues was blade sharpness....I needed a sharper blade. I got this sample pack from BullGoose shaving. Since I'm using derby extras and they're not sharp enough for me, I'm trying to find blades that are sharper than that in advancing succession. Feathers are quite a ways off for me, so I might start with iridiums or sharks based on these opinions and the ones from my other posts.

+1 to you all, good lads! (it's 4 am, give me a break ;)
