What's new

Rank the seasons by favorite.

I thought of making this thread because people usually look at me like I have an arm growing out of my forehead when I list mine. They are:

1. Autumn
.
.
.
.
.
.
2. Spring
3. Winter
4. Summer

What about you? Give reasons if you'd like.

Man that was tough to say!

Summer

I live in Charleston SC so it comes down to a humidity thing for me. Most Summer days are hot, humid, and cloudy here.

The rest

I base my opinion on a simple formula that cannot be argued against.

1. Winter - because I don't have to cut the grass and Christmas

2. Fall - because of the leaves turning and Thanksgiving

3. Spring - because it's not summer

4. Summer - Yuck!! Hot, sticky, have to cut the grass every week, too hot to sit outside except around 10PM

Of course, summer is the prevailing season here in North Texas and really lasts for six months.

Wow! Haha... I bet you get even more funny looks than I do when you say that to people! I can almost relate though - there are so many great things about winter: whiskey by a roaring fireplace, thick sweaters, Christmas, the smell of real Christmas trees in the house, snow and children having snowball fights... I could go on.

The transitions are my favorites by far, getting the best of each extreme. Between winter and summer, I would rather be cold with a chance of layering up, than too hot with no chance to cool down.

Thought I'd come back in and list the reasoning for my picks.

1. Autumn: Turning leaves, crisp air, clear starry nights, jacket weather (perfect time to pull out the tweed), dress boot weather, Halloween, the smell of burning leaves, Thanksgiving, dark beer (porters, doppelbocks, and stouts), horror films.

2. Spring: Budding flowers and trees, jacket weather (again!), and mainly just the weather...

3. Winter: Whiskey, fires in the fireplace, Christmas, Snow, pitch black nights, clean air, snowball fights with the kids, getting snowed in and staying home from work, New Years.

4. Summer: The way girls dress. That's it. Nothing else is good about it.

I love cold weather. And, yes, I definitely get a lot of strange looks when I talk about my preferred seasons.

James, I will second your list. As someone who lives in a sweatbox from late May to late September(sometimes into mid Oct.) I always dream of that first REAL day of Autumn when the wind is out of the North and the air is dry and clean. Spring would be okay except thefaster it warms here the faster the humidity builds. We actually had some highs in the upper 60s the first week of June. Unheard of in KC. It then immediately climbed into the mid 90s most days with humidity in 60 -70 % range. Did I mention I like cold weather?

Cheers, Todd

I'm with you, I'd love to live in a climate that never got above 40 F (5 C). Unfortunately I have no way to make a living in the places that come close. For my 60th birthday I hiked and camped in Iceland in December. At one point we got a North Atlantic storm that put 2" of ice on one side of our tent...it was Nirvana.

Spring - It's pretty, it's not too cold or too hot, women start wearing less clothing (I'm a perv, but it's one of the reasons), it reminds me of the end of school.

Autumn - Not too cold or too hot, Thanksgiving, the colors of the deciduous trees in October and early November.

Winter - I like cold weather, but I get tired of it after a while. I used to hate the holiday season, but it's growing on me.

Summer - This was my favorite season when I was a child and I could run around in the backyard, or at the pool, in a t-shirt, shorts and barefoot. Now that I'm an adult and have to dress up and pay electricity bills, it's just annoying. I sweat A LOT, too, so most of the time I'm really, really uncomfortable. Also, I keep getting invited to the beach. Apparently this is a FUN thing. I do not like the beach. Every time I say, "No, I don't really like the beach." I get looked at like, "Is there something wrong with you?"
