Random Brush Photo

I was shooting some photos this evening for a review I'm working on. I thought this one came out exceptionally well. I've been getting more serious with my product photography and am finally getting to a point I'm a bit more confident with what's coming out of my camera. Still not perfect, but getting there.

A little shave porn for you gents to enojoy :tongue_sm

Nice looking pic. Aside from the shave-porn aspect, here's what I see from a technical standpoint:

Composition is balanced and nicely cropped. Contrast looks good. Lighting is even, with no shadows or hot-spots or glare. Good depth of field, everything is sharp and in focus. I can almost read the fine print on the brush, and can see lots of individual hairs in the knot.

What type of camera and lens were you using?

Hint: Next time, shoot against a darker background, so that there is more contrast between the foreground subject and background. This will make the picture of the brush "pop" more.

If you have a Neutral Gray Card, that will make an ideal background for any subject.

I've been experimenting with shooting on white seamless, which is what I have setup right now im my little makeshift garage studio. I'll experiment some more on different backgrounds, but for the most part I shoot against white or black.

The shot was done with my D200 and 24-80mm lense at 1/125 f8. I use an SB-600 on stand with a 33" white shoot through umbrella. Ever since I started using tried this setup, my pictures have really excelled from what they were previously.
