I know it sounds like a strain of influenza, but it is Razorock's answer to the recently deceased P.160. Unfortunately I have never tried P.160, so I did not hesitate trying out the R-160. Joe(?) of italianbarbers.com stated in an email that the R-160 is made by an artisan that worked in the P.160 factory and that, in his view, the two products were extremely similar (he actually led me to believe it was more than extremely similar; that was enough to make me curious). Joe also indicated that he has not yet gotten around to distributing it to other vendors, so italianbarbers.com is the only place to get it as of today.
So I got some and used it today for the first time. I loved it so much that I ordered two more tubs before I told everyone how great it is! I'm still reeling from Razorock XXX biting the big one.
I was very careful to load my brush very well. I counted to 30 very slowly while swirling the brush (after shaking off excess water). It probably amounted to about 40-45 seconds. First I used just what was on the brush to create a very dense "pre-lather" on my face; then periodically I added a few drops of hot water at a time. This way, I caught the lather at its near peak density and creaminess. I had palm-lathered with it to practice recognizing the right stages. Most important was that my shave (Weber ARC with the third shave of a Gillette 7OC yellow) was close, smooth and without the roughness that I often feel from the 7OC yellows. This was truly a treat, some of the credit going to the Weber-ator, to be fair. The lather was very dense, reminiscent of the Simpsons Luxury Shaving Cream. I heartily recommend this soap-yes it is a sweet almond scent.
Request -- If anyone has tried both P.160 and R-160 I would love to hear your comments (Marco, hint, hint!!)
