What's new

Quick, I need an easy summer cocktail in a pitcher. Suggestions?

The party is Tuesday evening. I am not a cocktail guy, but I'm on assignment anyway. Last year involved negronis.

Ideas, please!

I would stick with last years theme somehow.

Premix a bottle of Campari and Vermouth and keep Gin, Bourbon/Rye, Prosecco and Club Soda ready. You will get:

Milano - Torino (Premix over ice)
Americano (P + soda)
Sbagliato (P + Prosecco)
Negroni (P + Gin)
Boulvardier (P + Bourbon/Rye)
It would be fun to put these on a bar with glasses and bar tools and a laminated placard of recipes and let guests play bartender. Maybe have a taco or barbecue bar, too!

Negronis are more of an Autumn drink.

What is the weather forecast for your party?

Mid-day or evening?

Evening, low 80s dropping to high 70s, LOTH is an ambitious and talented cook. Maybe slightly competitive. I have to do more better than my sweet spot: "wine or beer?".

Variations on a theme:

- Batch Margarita's
- Batch Mojita's (you could a a variety of these cucumber, berry, kiwi, watermelon: these scream hot weather drinking, quench my thirst: Danger Will Robinson, Danger!)
- There's always white neutral grain spirit punch, be careful how much 151 you use, folk need to drive home: PSA done.
- Or, take the end off a watermelon, grind up the inside with a stick blender or potato ricer, pour in vodka or some grain neutral, let steep, yada, yada; install a drink spigot (it shouldn't leak) and Bob's your uncle! (Well Bob's everyone's uncle, isn't he!?)

There are mutiple wanna be influencer's on youtube that will demonstrate any number of recipes using a watermelon. If you want to be really fancy do a variation on a theme and use other melons (cantalope, casaba, honeydew, Crenshaw) you'll a genius innovator and the life of the party.

Three cans of beer (any cheap american beer will do), small can of frozen concentrate lemonade, and one concentrate can full of vodka (I suppose white/clear rum will do as well). Mix up a batch, and enjoy while sitting back on the front porch watching the world go by. We called it a boomerang. Back in my bachelor we used to drink these to great effect.

Fresh homemade lemonade with vodka, add a little maple syrup. When serving, splash in some club soda and garnish with slices of fresh fruit like strawberries.

Boomerang indeed. After a couple of these if you don't duck, you're gonna get hit in the head!!!

Yep. Pretty much. Those were the days. We were also known to mix iced tea and beer too.

Sadly, my drinking buddy from back then (a college friend) ended up drinking himself to death four years ago. We parted ways a little more than 25 years ago when I got married, and he kept drinking. Oh the stories I could tell. One centered around a case of cheap beer and Mozart's Marriage of Figaro...
