Questions abouta Gillette Tech Fat Handle

Hi. I've inherited my grandfather's Gillette Tech Fat Handle. I have a few questions about repair and the finish, so I joined this forum because it seems like the best place to ask.

The original plating (nickel as best I can tell, its silver color) on the head has worn down on the left and right side if the head exposing the metal underneath. 60/70 years of hitting the edges of the sink will do that. :} I like the wear because it gives it character, so I'd like to preserve it if possible, but I'm worried it might lead to corrosion and I should get it replated. Will having the underlying metal exposed be a problem?

The more serious issue is that the head doesn't properly screw down because the threading in the head / handle is stripped. Is there a reputable company/person who could repair this? From what I can tell from my research its not a rare model, but it has sentimental value so I'd rather not replace it or any of its parts unless I absolutely have to. I live in the Southeastern United States.

Thanks for the help, this place seems like a great resource!

Welcome to B&B!

Exposed brass is not a huge problem, not like rusty iron. But watch out for any pitting, which is difficult to repair.

I do not know if the threading can be fixed, but pictures might help. Meanwhile you might try wrapping a little teflon tape around the threads, of the sort used for plumbing.

You can always buy another Tech razor and replace the handle, it may be cheapest option...

I'm really hoping to find someone who could repair it rather than replace the pieces. Maybe a machine shop or jeweler? Suggestions are welcome.

Some photos of mine below. If anyone can discern anything interesting about when it was made/other info I'd appreciate the history lesson...

Definitely needs a good cleaning...

I did a little research before posting and it seems like there's a thin and fat version of this handle. I think mine is the fat, but I included the ruler for some scale

Underside of the guard. Gillette Logo, "Made in USA" "REG U.S." I think is what it says.

Tried to get a shot of the threading. Without a blade it will barely screw down, with a blade it can't. I'm not sure if it's the handle or the screw that's damaged.

This shows the damage to the head on the edges. It doesn't sit cooked on the guard, it's at a weird angle that I couldn't recreate if I tried.

Thanks in advance for the help.

1938-45 years made........i think the thread may be a factor on why it is not straight. Maybe a vendor here can fix it.
