Question on brush care

Hey guys,
I have a Semogue 740 brush. Do I need to clean it every so often, or is a thorough rinse fine? If i need to clean it, how often should I do so? So far this is my only brush and I want to take care of it.

thanks

A good thorough rinse is critical to brush maintenance. If you notice a soap scum build up on your brush or your brush isn't lathering as well as it once was you might want to give it a good cleaning (link). Honestly, you should only have to clean a brush once a year or so. I am sure some never clean their brush.

I clean mine periodically (two or three times a year) with the info provided by Jeremy in his link to Emsplace. Is the cleaning absolutley necessary? Probably not, but it has helped keep my brushes in excellent condition.

Its kind of like car maint. If you put off little things they become big things. If you properly rinse your brush after each use you will rarely have to actually clean it. I give mine the borax treatment 1x a year but its for GPs only. It still works fine. If you allow it to build up soap or minerals you will be washing and scrubbing all the time and may never get all the crud out.

I try to make sure I get my brush thoroughly rinsed after every use, as it's the only one I have, too.

But I'm starting to get the "let's make another brush" bug...
