After using lapping film, say the green with the paper underneath, do you strop before shaving or shave directly off the last pass on the film?
So far, everyone here says STROP, which is what I thought when I initially posted my question.
However, I have heard several times something along these lines, "Shave with it is is. Do nothing; not even strop."
Hmmmm.
A related question. When? Strop immediately after a shave so the razor is ready for next time; strop immediately before shaving and let your lather soak in?
Both?

Stropping improves the already awesome film edge.

I think the only time that's a legitimate request is if someone sends you a newly honed and stropped razor and wants to make sure you don't roll his edge by stropping poorly.
In all other cases, strop.
sorry is that a joke ?
no Mojo in that edge
its shaves well but its boring with Mojo a big problem some film/satans paper users have

I am very new at straights, but I am reading a lot. I understand that some people recommend shaving off a honed edge without stropping as an aid to refine one’s honing techniques. You can test the quality of the honed edge without altering it (or improving it) with the strop. This would be for one “test shave” only. If you are happy with the as honed edge, then strop it and get that much closer to shaving nirvana. If not then go back to the hones.

I have tried shaving off a JNAT without stropping, it can be done, but why. I use the HHT off the stones, I usually can get a HHT 3 straight off the stones, that is brought up to a 4 or 5 after stropping. If I get the HHT 3 then no need to "test it" with a shave and potentially suffer a mediocre shave. So far, everyone here says STROP, which is what I thought when I initially posted my question.
