Question for the pipe smokers

On average how often do you fellows light up? Once a day? Multiple times a day? Once a week?

Just curious is all.
I used to smoke cigarettes and quit smoking completely 20 years ago. I smoked pipe for quite a while during my smoking days. I've always loved the smell of a pipe and the relaxation that comes with it. Recently I started smoking a pipe again. I puff but don't inhale. I am once again enjoying the taste, smell and the relaxation time of smoking the pipe but am concerned about it becoming an addiction again. I have that type of a personality:crying:. So I'm limiting myself to smoking the pipe once every other day. Anyone else in the same sort of situation?

I do love it but am on the fence deciding if it's a good idea or not. SWMBO really likes the smell of the pipe and always has. So no issues there.

There's a ton of info on pipesmokers outliving nonsmokers and vise-versa. I think if you don't inhale, your not "smoking" in the dangerous sense of the word, but that's just my opinion, which I always think is spot-on:biggrin1:. I light up anywhere from a few times a day to once a week. I have been on pipes and cigars for 20 years and have never felt addicted to them. I'll go a month sometimes without thinking about a smoke. I use them to relax and enjoy an hour or two, if I don't have the time to do it right, I don't do it at all. For the "grain of salt" discloser, I am a smokeless tobacco user for my regular nicotine habit, so take that for what it's worth.

I've really cut back. I used to smoke 1-2 times a day but it turned into too much of a habit. I hate smoking out of habit...it should be purely for pleasure.

Now it's maybe once every few weeks on impulse.

Some weeks its eveyday and some weeks its only a bowl or two, I dont think to much about it. I have been smoking cigars for about 20 years and just recently pipes and have never felt addicted, but everybody is different, just take it slow.

I was a pack a day cigg smoker until I completely switched from ciggs to pipe back in April/May. I smoked pipe tobacco just as frequently to start... but have slowly cut back to 3 to 6 smokes a day now. I do think I could cut back further but I enjoy the process too much! :biggrin1:

I usually take a smoke break or two during the work day and most nights I smoke a bowl while out walking. All of this varies depending on weather and work load. Usually when I am home on weekends I'll relax for a long smoke with one of my meerschaums.

I have a similar personality with nicotine. If I smoke too many days in a row I get a rough patch on the top of my mouth so it is in my best interests to smoke less frequently. It isn't too hard to cut back tho. Not like cigarettes.

If I had it my way I'd get three pipes a day in, everyday. Well, unless I didn't feel like it. But life gets in the way, and I don't really have a place to smoke except in my car or at the coffee shop. I get one or two in per week.

+1 to all this. Some studies seem to suggest that stress kills you a lot faster than pipe tobacco (or moderate alcohol) will. And guess what relives stress? :sailor:

Well I've been once a day but I skip the odd day here and there and it seems to be fine. I find it's not so much the smoke I look forward to as much as the relaxation time. Just let my mind go blank and let drool run out of both sides of my mouth and ahhhhhhh........be right back!

I smoke every day or two depending on the weather. When smoking a pipe you don't inhale the smoke as it is so think it would end up choking you. Just hold it in your mouth then release and let the good times roll.

HOn December 19 at 19:30 of last year I sat all tobacco down. Pipe, cigar, snus, and cigarette. All so I wouldn't crutch in my (successful ) attempt to quit the cigs. At the time I had culled my collection down to about 30 pipes, 100 pounds of leaf, and maybe 500 cigars. I've shrank the collection further in the past 11 months I'm now down to 10-12 pipes and about 40 lbs of leaf.
To say that I was involved in the lifestyle is an understatement

I said that so you understand where I'm coming from saying this.
There were days I'd enjoy six or eight pipes and there were times I wouldn't partake for weeks at a time.
It was wholly about mood and time. If you are in the mood and have the time for proper enjoyment by all means partake brother. If you don't have time to enjoy it or catch yourself mindlessly puffing then set it down and wait.

BTW at 19:30 on December 19 I intend to enjoy a nice bowl of Penzance :)
