Question about razors and water.

Do any of you guys leave your razor (head only) submerged in warm water so the blade stays warm during a shave?

Tried it for the first time today, and it was nice.

Question is, would it damage the razor in the long run?

I always do, but I don't know if it makes any real difference. It's the one thing my dad taught me that I remember. Even though he was shaving with a cart, he would always run the blade under the hottest water from the tap, "to temper it" he would say. Maybe this would have made a difference with old carbon steel blades, but even then I'm not sure.

Still, I do it out of habit every time I shave. In the shower I keep an old cup that I fill with hot water and soak my razor in it while I'm building lather. If I'm at the sink I fill the sink up with hot water and soak the razor in that. Like I said, it probably makes no difference, but it's what I do.

Yes, I usually do or at least hold it under hot running water but I also like my water and my soap warm as well. To me it's just more luxurious!

Just re-read the post and have to add, I don't perma soak it I just heat it up before my shave!

I shave in the shower so the razor is usually hanging on our little shower rack when I'm not using it at the moment. I usually rinse it under water before doing a stroke so the metal picks up the heat of the water almost instantly.

(No, I don't store it in the shower when not in use!)

I always heat up the razor head with hot water. I take the time to do a nice hot towel before shaving I don't want the cold metal to take away from that wonderful warmth.
