Most would probably say no.

However, I am a firm believer that the difference between shaving products that work well is actually quite small. Proraso is an awesome product that performs really well. I doubt you would notice a night, and day difference between it, and the high end creams that cost 2-3 times as much.

It will always have a spot in my den.

Agreed. It is an absoultely fantastic value, and is just about guaranteed to give you an excellent shave. Personally, I fell that is even more true with Omega.

Either way, it is certainly worth trying. I've paid a lot of money for various soaps and creams.... while I may like their scent more, the performance of Proraso in the summer is very tough to beat.

To me, comparing Proraso with "high end" creams is like comparing apples to oranges. It's just different. They could probably charge $20 for a tube of it and people would still buy it. It's certainly unique in its mentholated kick (that is, I haven't used a high-end cream that has a similar menthol kick).

I can't say I've tried T&H or TOBS or other "high-end" products (yet), but I must say that the Proraso shave is my most used and most looked-forward-to. Great stuff.

I have and do use the higher end creams. Proraso is one the top performers concerning a lot of the properties of any good cream has like cushioning, slickness and ease of lathering. I get really excellent shaves from Proraso and in fact if something is wrong in my routine I go back to Proraso to set the standard. The only thing that I have a bit of a problem with is that it dries my skin a little bit so I make sure that moisturize after shaving.

Take Care,
Richard

I believe most of us care about the quality of the shave first and the price second. Like Tabac soap, Proraso provides a top quality shave at a great value price. Some days its Castle Forbes, some days its Truefitt and Hill, and some days its Proraso, all are permanently in my rotation because they are all high quality product which give great shaves. YMMV

I've had better shaves with Trumpers and T&H cream, but not 3-4x better - which is how much more than Proraso those products cost here in Australia.

You validate such purchases for reasons other than cost anyway.

I have the green tub and I like it.

For the price, it is a nice soap. And convenient in that it can be bought at a drugstore.

A Large tube easily gets me through a Summer of Menthol Bliss.
That and Kiss My Face are the great bargains in wetshaving imo.:thumbup1:

John hit the nail on the head here...good stuff, works amazingly well. So does TOBS, Penhaligons, Aqua di Parma etc.

So...pick your poison. Some drink Vodka, others Scotch...both get the job done...so to speak.

I don't think Proraso is as good as, let's say GFT but it's not that far. As John & Chris pointed out!

This is one product that I know is cheap and always give me a great shave! It might not be a Caddilac but it's not far behind!

I've only used my Proraso a few times, and I can only compare it to the GFT and T&H samples I've used up, but it seems to me there are a couple of differences between the English creams and the Prorasso. I seemed to have gotten a thicker, more substantial lather from the English creams. Maybe I didn't work the product enough, or added too much water to the Proraso. The other difference is that it took a lot less of the English creams to get a great lather.

Anyhow, I love the Proraso and would recommend it for anyone's rotation!

+1. No two brands are going to be exactly the same. (Unless they are the same, and the second is simply a private label of the first.)

For my money, Proraso is one of the best values on the market. :thumbup1:

If you have yet to try it, do yourself a favor and pick up a tube. The fact that it has been around for well over 50 years and still gets accolades from just about everyone ought to tell you something!
