Question about MWF

I've recently figured out a way to get a good shaving lather from the fat. I pretty much do the same things Mantic outlines in his video, except instead of dipping the tips of my loaded brush in the water, I cup some water in my hand and sprinkle it into an upturned brush so that I don't lose any soap by dipping the tips. It's not a pillowy wonderful looking lather like I get from Tabac though. I paint it on at the end and it ends up looking rather thin and weak comparatively. However, it provides the best shaves I've ever had. The slickness is unreal and the post shave feel is so incredible that I hesitate to even apply aftershave. I love it so much that I've used it for the last 5 days straight!

I live in the city and I mostly blame the hard water here for the lack of an explosive lather. For the MWF lovers out there, is your preferred lather pillowy and luscious? Mine isn't and, so far, I'm cool with it. However, I would like to know if there's some goodness I'm missing out on.

I get pillowy wonderful lather from both tabac and mwf. To be honest, they perform very similarly for me. Love them both, I think they'll be my only soaps, unless I decide to just stick with one. Would probably be tabac, great smell :001_tt1:. Maybe try some filtered water with the MWF?

I do get pillowy lather from MWF, but I don't have hard water. I would try using some distilled water to satisfy my curiosity.

If the lather looks airy, work it a bit more on your face. If it is still airy, add just a bit more water and then work it some more. I don't mean anything ridiculous, just an extra 20-40 seconds of working the lather on the face really impacts the thickness of the lather. When I find it is still airy, I instantly know it needs a bit more water, then some more work and bingo, slick and yoghurt thick lather.

How long are you loading the brush for? I usually load MWF for 60 seconds or so. I was getting weak lather until I loaded more product.

Will the fat, I typically load between 60 and 90 seconds. If I want a big batch of lather I will go the full 90 seconds. I do drip hot water on the top of the soap while the brush is soaking too. I don't usually have any problems creating a great lather. It does take a bit longer than say, Tabac. I live in the South East region of the US so I don't think I have very hard water. MWF is one of those soaps where you just have to find your distict procedures and routines that work the best. It might take a little testing to get it down pat.

I sold The Fat from experiences like yours James, I would occasionally get a good lather from The Fat, but nothing like the consistency of Tabac. I attribute my problems to be that MWF is way more touchy with the type of water you have. Tabac is always just effortless, and when I travel and the water changes, Tabac turns into a lather bomb!

My lather isn't airy by any means. It normally ends up as a thin smooth layer that I could probably compare to yogurt. It's just not thick and luscious like what's so easily achievable with Tabac.

I think I usually go about 30-45 seconds. The only quality brush I have is an SOC and it picks up quite a lot of soap in that amount of time. However, I'll try loading for about 90 seconds tomorrow and see what happens.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not having a bad experience with it. Quite the opposite. It's more like I'm having a 'great' experience with it and I wanted to know if that experience could turn to 'outstanding'. I was actually thinking of getting rid of all my other soaps and just sticking to MWF.

I should have clarified the lather gets thicker and thicker the more you work it on your face.

Longer load time was the trick. 90 seconds seemed like a ridiculous amount of time to load, but the results of that extra minute were definitely worth it! Thanks fellows, I may have to unload the rest of my soaps now, 'cause none of them compare to the fat :wink2:

I face lather, and load most of my hard soaps for 60 seconds or so (Mike's for 75-90, Pre de Provence for 90+), but I have to load MWF for about 120 seconds. I then work it on my face for 2+ minutes, gradually adding drops of water to the brush's breach. Anything short of that doesn't work for me, no matter what brush I use and whether or not I use distilled water.
