Question about manufactorer

First off, what a great place! It is so hard to find info that seems relivant for shaving with a straight razor.

So here is my question. I recently began trying to find older straight razors at antique shops. I recently found (and bought) a nice looking razor. The handle is ivory colored with metal work on the top and bottom. The bottom reads "Special B S". Once the blade is opened the blade reads "Middlesex B & B.S. Perth Ambroy N.J. Made in Germany" and on the other side "Special". I have not been able to find any information about this manufactorer anywhere on the web. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I can't offer any help as I know nothing of straights.....

...but Welcome to B&B!!!

Welcome, Carolina Boy. I have yet to get into the world of straight razor shaving, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly who will be able to answer your question.

It seems to be hard to track down vintage straight manufactures I am under the impression the blades were often produced and sold to multiple "manufacturers" across the country. I may be wrong about this. Hopefully someone will come along who knws something to help you.

Many straight razors appear to be "contract" or "private label" items with only the distributor or seller stamped on the tang. Like trying to determine who makes the private label items sold in a big box retailer.

I think it may say "Middlesex B & B.S. Perth Amboy N.J. Made in Germany"

Perth Amboy is a town in New Jersey, and it is in Middlesex County. The B & B.S. could be almost anything, maybe "Barber and Barber Supply".

There is a Middlesex Barber and Beauty Supply in Perth Amboy, NJ.

A lot of razors were made in Germany and sold in the US at stores and razor shops who had them made with their store brand or mark.

I can find no reference to any of the words in your description.

Keep checking back, someone may have some personal knowledge, but a lot of these razors from a long time ago are simply untraceable.
