Question about Dunhill Nightcap

Hey guys,

I was at a nice cigar bar and I spotted among the few tins of pipe tobacco Dunhill Nightcap. I know it's a Virginia, latakia blend of some sort and I was thinking about trying it. The thing is I haven't tried latakia. I have smelled it before and I've always wanted to try it but I was wondering if there's something I should try first before trying the nightcap or just go for the win? Any suggestions guys?

Thanks!

Nightcap is a good place to start I would think. Latakia is very love it or hate it. If you have one bowl full and don't like it you are only out that much... if you love it well you're cellar is going to look amazing!

It is one of the three Dunhill "must try" selections, the others being "Early Morning Pipe" and "My Mixture 965". Otherwise you won't know what everyone else is talking about! Plus its good!

IMO, the Latakia isn't "in your face" in Nightcap. It's nicely balanced with the VA and Turkish, plus you get a little spicy kick with the Perique. It's a must try, I agree. If you aren't used to blends that have a little bit larger punch of vitamin N, don't sit down while smoking this!

Well gents, I think you've answered my question! Next time I'm there I'll be giving it a go.

Keep in mind that Night Cap is available in bulk now as well. Whether you end up liking it and want to buy more than a tin's worth, or want to only order an ounce to try it out.

Well guys, I tried the nightcap tonight. A friend and I went to the bar after work. I gotta say, in my experience it was a cool dry smoke with that vitamin N punch I was warned about. I was intimated by the scent out of the tin, but I found it to be a rather mild smoke with some spice. I'm going to have to give it a couple more tries but I really really enjoyed it. It was one of the easiest smokes I've had as well. Could be my new favorite! Any other suggestions?

If you like Nightcap, try other English/Balkan blends.

Esoterica makes great ones, but they are hard to find. Margate and Pembroke are the best, IMO.

All the Frog Mortons are good if you want try more Latakia

McClellands 3 Oaks Syrian gets rave reviews.

3 Oaks Syrian is a wonderful smoke! I've heard that McClelland's Samovar is another good choice with Syrian Latakia and more vitamin N if that's your thing

Dunhill Early Morning Pipe, Esoterica Pembroke, Dan Tobacco's Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend, Ewan Ries British Full, and Comptons of Galashiels Balkan Blend are all great English/Balkan blends as well.

Not sure what the opinion around here is of it, but me and a buddy of mine really enjoy Sutliff's medium english.

Not sure whats in there that isn't in the Nightcap. The nightcap is damn good, but to my palette, not quite as flavorful as the Sutliff

3 Oak Syrian is an absolute favourite of mine (And im totally out of it) smokes amazingly well, and has a lot of flavour for me

hmm this may be a job for Santa lol

I was sad to see how empty my tin was this morning... only a bowl or two left. Have you tried Samovar? It's not one that I've heard mentioned much around here but reviews that I've seen describe 3 Oaks Syrian as Samovar's little sibling.

The way everyone is talking about it, I am going to have to try the 3 Oaks Syrian at some point.
