Question about Cyril Salter

Hey guys, newbie here and have had a few days using the Cyril Salter Sandalwood. Seems like a nice soap, but not real slick. I am sure my lather technique plays a role in this, but any recommendations for a slicker soap? Where does the Salter fall into the scale of slickness?

Welcome aboard!

Cyrill is a nice soap, better in it's shaving cream in my opinion but you do have a nice soap on your hands.

In terms of slickness I would rate it as average but there are many things to consider when finding "your soap." Water, brush, but technique and environment is huge. Some folks may say it's one of the slickest or others like me....average.

On your technique, try to see if you could add a little more water next time up until the lather can't take anymore and try it out. It may take a few times to get to your liking.

Let us know how it goes:biggrin1:

I wasn't aware that the Salter soap came in more than one variety? Perhaps he actually has the Salter Indian Sandalwood Shaving Cream instead?

I found Salter shaving creams to be top notch, and very under appreciated on these boards. The scents are heavenly, and the lather produced very rich.

And yes, welcome aboard. :thumbup1:

Oh wow. Just noticed:cursing:

Nope, definitely the soap that came in the little fancy-schmancy wooden bowl. I got a puck of the MWF too, but haven't broken it out yet.

Ok, I have only ever seen it for sale through Bullgoose Shaving, it comes in a beechwood bowl, and is lavender scented.

I have not seen a Sandalwood version of this. :001_unsur

edit: I see West Coast Shaving has it as well, but also only in the lavender fragrance.

Oops, you are right -- I meant lavender. I was eyeballin' the TOBS sandalwood ones this morning and had that on my mind. Sorry for the confusion.

Salter's shave soap has a lavender scent with citrus notes, and is of the generic type similar to the T&H, Vintage Blades, Taylor's Traditional, Vulfix and Culmak etc. In terms of slickness, I find this soap slick enough but not to the same level as a glycerin soap or a soft soap i.e. Proraso/Omega etc, it does provide more cushion though being a triple milled soap.

Most milled soaps just aren't that slick. If you need slick, try a cream or a glycerin/melt 'n pour type soap.

I love the Wild Rose. It's really a pleasure to lather up with warm Rose scented cream. Definately has a pampering effect on the savage beast in the morning. C.R. Salter produces a nice thick lather as well and I can't even feel the razor doing its work. Great stuff! :001_wub: I would like to try some of the other scents as well but I've got to use up some of the other soaps and creams first. (This AD thing comes in all flavors doesn't it? SBAD, RAD, SSAD, SCAD, stop me I'm out of control!!!) :scared:
