Question about broken razor.

I bought another Fatboy, but the top of the razor (the part with the silo doors and hinges) broke off. The part where the two rivets hold the rod that goes into the hole to the TTO mechanism on the bottom plate of the head of the razor. The metal cracked around the bottom rivet. I can post a picture later. Basically the silo doors and hinges separated from the long rod that goes into the handle. I've never seen a razor that did that before. Has anybody else have that happen?

I have not. But if the rest of the razor is in good shape, you might find another broken razor to switch out this piece. It is surprisingly easy to disassemble a Fat Boy. Sorry to hear of your predicament!

Yep thanks for the info, I totally forgot about that. I did indeed find another junker Fatboy with a good top head, luckily both razors had the removable cap on the bottom so I swapped the broken piece with the good on (silo doors/hinges with intact center stem and replaced the broken one. Now I have a perfectly functioning razor in very good condition. Thanks for the tip, I never thought about that. At least I combined two Fatboys to make a good one!

Is that now a Double Fatboy?

Just finished putting it back together tonight after a through cleaning and polishing and it looks great. The only tricky part I had was putting back the lock nut on the bottom. I had to hold the razor, then hold the locking nut while pushing it in, while turning it back onto the post with spring tension pushing outward. BTW using needle nose plies works fantastic at unscrewing and screwing back the locking nut. The tips of the pliers fit perfectly into the two little notches, plus you can squeeze the pliers together to get a better grip and you have the length of the plier handles to give you better torque, so the cap turns fairly easily.

The note about the needle nose pliers = right on for me, too. I have an old cheap pair that I had previously filed to an even smaller end tip, done just fine on the fatboy. Glad to hear you made out ok. Enjoy!
