Question about a song tab

I was going through the tabs for Metallica's "One" and one chords is a little unclear to me it tabs out as

G-0-
D-0-
A---
E-3-

Is the A string muted a finger? :confused1

Yea, The finger you use on the E string slightly touches the A string to mute it

It's is more not played. If was supposed to be muted there is usually a X marking the spot.

I bring this up, because muted does still play some sound depending on how it is played.

So yes, it can be muted, but it is better to not play it.

Personally I would play this with my pick on th E string while using my middle and ring finger on the other two. And totally avoid touching the A string. Sounds a lot cleaner that way.

I stand corrected, sir. Which part of "One" is it anyway? If it's the fast "Darkness, Imprisoning me"!! part, with all the distortion it has at that part I don't think a muted string is going to matter all that much. If its the clean part then yea I guess plucking the strings would sound better.

Its during the choras right as James sings "Hold"

I personally would just do the muted string there. That part is pretty distorted also. But that's just me. I'm sure these other guys are far better musicians than I am. I like the easy way.lol. Especially when your trying to play a song by the master of rhythm guitar (James Hetfield) :punk:

Personally, i would play that as a stacked power chord

G-0
D-0
A-5
E-3

probably a bit easier than muting the a string, and reinforces the 5th of the chord
