Question About 2 Gillette Razors

How Can you tell if An Aristocrat is a 1946 model?
I heard They Added something in that year, But I'm Not Sure What.

Also, What Characteristics were on the "Ranger Tech" In 1946 That Distinguish it from other Ranger Techs?

Would like Pictures of 1946 models if possible, So i Know What To Look For.
Thanks in Advance Guys.

The 1946 Aristocrat had two smooth bands on the knurling and the center bar was not notched.

The 1946 Ranger received the addition of endcaps.

Any Gillette TTO razor made before the release of the metal blade loading dispenser will NOT have the blade loading notches on the center vertical bar.

The blade dispenser was released in 1948 so: NO notch = before 1948. Notch = After 1948.

That is the first thing to look for.

After you get past that simple date dividing design there are other more subtle things to look for (which Erik has mentioned)

This is like a master's class in all things Gillette. I'm going to go look at my Aristocrat right now and see if it has the notch or not.

edit. I'm still not sure about the notch, but it does have the two smooth bands.

The notch on the center bar would be on each end of the center bar on the Aristocrats, on the Ranger Tech what I look for is the smooth band on the handle just above the TTO knob. Ranger Tech razors are not gold plated from the factory as far as I know. Some Milord razors have a smooth band on the handle bu they are gold plated. Gillette used left over parts to make new razors sometimes to save production costs.
