Quality double edge razor made in USA?

I daily shave with a '56 Gillette Flair Tip Super Speed, so this razor is 54 years old and I keep thinking that maybe it's just not going to last forever. Can someone tell me if there are currently any quality double edge razors made here in USA? So far from what I've read here on B&B it seems that majority of guys will recommend a Merkur razor made in Germany. I have nothing against a quality product made in another country and from searching around the internet my understanding is that there are no double blade razors made in USA anymore?
Maybe I answered my own question here. I guess I just want to verify before buying and thought if anyone knows it's going to be someone here on B&B.

Interesting question, I've seen a few imported new production razors from Egypt or China in addition to Germany but nothing made in the USA.

I believe the vintage Gillette Super Speed models including the 50's flare tip are relatively common in the BST forum here, perhaps you could find a suitable backup (or 2.. or 3) via the forum? EBay is a good source as well but the prices seem a lot higher and I would be less trusting of condition description accuracy.

that super speed will probably last to be passed down to your childrens children... no us made DE's as far as I know

No DE razors presently manufactured in the USA . . . but we still seem to still have a fair number of vintage Gillettes that are looking for new homes!! :001_smile

Personally, I have not tried any of the modern European or Asian DE razors. Many Merkur users have shared their positive opinions, but like the other products on the market, even they have had a few quality control issues.

Hard to beat a vintage Gillette - you find one "in the wild" for a fair price, spend a little time cleaning and restoring, and you truly have "your" personal razor . . . or razors as has happened to most of us!! :001_rolle

As far as I know, there are no DE razors currently being made in the US. I have a feeling that your '56 SS has at least as many years left of solid performance as it has already given. And if you want a razor that will last almost forever, try an old Gillette three piece. I've got a single ring from 1906 that is probably as good as the day it was made (minus a tiny bit of plate loss, of course).

Unless you beat it with a hammer or something, yes, it will.

While not entirely new razors, CoonCatBob and Ikon both replate old razor heads and create custom handles.

Ikon is also working on a complete original razor, which should be available soon:
(As Bob points out below, I'm wrong about this. Ikon is in Thailand and his razors are made there.)

Might want to keep an eye on that!

Yah, nothing modern, but you don't need it. The old Gillettes are built to last and will if you take care of them.

I get a little worried that one of these times when I change a blade and tighten the TTO it's gonna fall off or end up with a broken door hinge or something, so I'm ever so careful not to crank on the TTO.
I will not shave with a disposable or cartridge razor ever again, so I'm thinking that a travel DE is a necessity since my Super Speed has sentimental value and then also a backup DE or two or three... ya know, just in case. I think maybe I'm starting to get the RAD (razor acquisition disorder) that I keep hearing about.

*edit forgot to add= Thank you all for the replies. I'm new on B&B and it's so nice to be able to get answers here. I'll have more confidence in my Gillette giving me many more years of service and I'll get some new modern China razors for the backup and travel purposes.

Huh?

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty certain that Above the Tie, Weber and the L.A.S.S. razor are all made in USA from stainless steel.

I think you're right. But that said....

There are any number of vintage razors that are as good as just about anything else made today. And the price can be downright reasonable. I just ended up getting two over the last month without even trying!

(Then again, I don't quite understand why a razor should be made in the USA. If someone overseas made the razor, they're just as worthy as someone in the USA; a non-USA made razor might even help more people.)
