What's new

Purplish hone id.

TBH i'm a DE man, but very occasionally whilst hunting for vintage Gillettes i'll find the odd hone. This one was at a car-boot sale and I picked it up for £1. In fact I'm not even sure if it actually IS a razor hone; but it certainly gives off a purplish slurry when I try to use it. (I have a couple of straights but my honing is far from perfect. I thought the dimensions may be familiar to one of you guys:
L-just over 200mm. w-43mm. D-11mm. thnx in advance for any info.

Hard to tell from the photo- but this is highly likely to be a welsh slate- I find them semi regularly here in the uk. They are generally rather fine but rather slow.

More photos would help along with a description on speed and fineness. Are there any green spots on the stone? These are known as reduction spheres and characteristic in welsh slates as well a some other stones.
