What's new

Pulled the trigger

I managed to rid myself of some unused razors, so it was time to finally get my Futur I've been belly-aching about. I just ordered it, and it should be here in a few weeks. I'm so excited, I can't wait to try this bad boy out!

Polished chrome....of course!

I mean, if I buy something that's new and shiny, well it's gotta be the shiniest it can be!!!

Congratulations on your fine purchase! One glide of that machine across your cheek and you'll be in shave nirvana. The sun will shine brighter, the breeze will feel fresher and even your toothbrush will dance a happy dance! You may even be able to snatch the pebble from my hand, grasshopper.

Just don't start with too high of a setting.

I started on 2 with a Gillette Yellow and got the closest shave of my life with absolutely no irritation. It seems that 1.5 to 2.5 is the most common setting.

So I guess we've proven that Homer Simpson is a Merkur fan. :p

Yes Merkurs and Duff

Start in the basement an' go up. I started at 1, then up to 1.5, but when I went to 2.5, bad things started to happen. So my chrome baby stays at 1.5.
That's good for me.
But experimentation is half the fun. After you get a feel for it, crank her open and see if you can keep your chin.

Seems to be a lot of interest in the Futur these days. I think the razor was ahead of its time being made 24 years ago given the size and weight of it. Maybe one day I'll get around to getting one.

I joined the Futur forum over the wk end. I also started out with a low setting and never got much past a 3, (except 4 on the jawline, always very carefully).
I use a feather and to give you an idea of how long I've had it, under $40 with shipping is what I paid.
I kept reading post of how the used set it on 6 and rolled. OK, I thought, I can be careful and tried turning her up, welp that was a mistake!! On my second pass ATG set that baby down dead center on the chin and boommm, I'm somewhat embarrassed to say acquired a wound that my "seal a nick" wouldn't even seal!
Back to 2 1/2 for me, still one of my favorites.
Just reminded me how sharp feather are, didn't even feel it just noticed the drops of red in the sink:eek:

I cannot imagine going past a 3. The Futur on 2 gives me an effortless BBS. On 6 it would probably take the 1st two layers of skin with it.

OH yeah!! What setting should I start at to get a good idea of where to go? 1? 1.5?

Start at 6. Seriously, that's what mine is set at. The Blade Gap is only 69 thousandths of an inch.

I'll repost a photo -

I get BBS on 6. And the sound it makes is incredible.

First pass usually 2-3, second pass 4, never really need to go above that. I love the consistency of the Futur, yeah the adjustment is "different" and the blade loading is quirky but I do like it a lot and these quirks give it some character.
