Prototype Razor Case - DYI project

I had a razor that did not have a case, and I decided to try to make a case for it. Here is the second prototype case which, though not perfect is better than the previous case, which was none.

Thanks for taking your time to read this.

Cool!

What is this resin that the heads are coated in?

Here is my write up in the BOTOC thread.

The razor above is a custom OC made for me by a member of another forum. It is a coating that is close to the hardness of diamond and is almost as slick as PTFE.

Moly Resin™ is a product trademark of John Norrell Inc. These finishes are specifically formulated from a phenolic resin base and molybdenum disulfide (a superior lubricant) with an exclusive blend of additives only available through Norrell Manufacturing. Our additives create a phenolic coating that is hard, durable, and extremely chemical and heat resistant. The special low temperature catalyst will cause the Resin to harden and bond to the surface to form a barrier to acids, oils, paint removers, powder solvents, bore cleaners and other strong industrial solvents.

Lubricity:
Moly Resin™ contains molybdenum disulfide, which provides excellent anti-friction characteristics. Moly Resin™ is a phenolic Resin that when thermally cured, produces the most durable thermally cured painted surface of any products on the market.

Fluid Resistance:
Moly Resin™ will meet 24 hour emersion requirements in the following fluids: aviation gasoline, hydraulic fluid, jet fuel, lubricating oils, paint removers, trichlorethylene, nitric, sulphuric and hydrochloric acids, hydrogen peroxide, gun powder solvents, strong bases such as ammonium and sodium hydroxide, and numerous other strong chemicals.

Corrosion Resistance:
Moly Resin™, when applied to bare sandblasted cold rolled steel will pass the test procedures for salt water spray at 1000 hours, salt water immersion at a minimum of 1000 hours, accelerated salt spray test equivalent to 30 years marine atmosphere exposure, and 60 days sea water immersion.

Hardness:
Hardness meets and/or exceeds the hardness of any Epoxy, Teflon or most other thermally cured firearm coating or paints on the market. hardness for thermal cured Moly Resin™ exceeds a 9H on the paint hardness scale.

• Titanium dioxide [white paint pigmentation] = 7H
• Corundum [~nano coatings] = 9H
• Moly Resin™ exceeds 9H
• Diamond =10 H

Only diamond has a harder more durable coating.

BTW: The maker is not currently doing any more of these due to time constraints.

Gary, you are a genius! You need to stop showing us those photos of your moly-resin coated razors or else i may start asking you to sell one to me. :wink2:
Fantastic idea and thanks for sharing.

An interesting concept and a well done project. Thanks for sharing.

However, it would seem to me that many cases for glasses and sunglasses might work quite well as a razor carrier in a suitcase when traveling, without any alteration to the glasses case.
