Proraso Soap: 3 questions

1. i read that it's basically just Proraso cream, but denser. that right?
2. will a puck of Proraso fit in an Old Spice mug?
3. Green, White, Bigelow: what's the difference? Or are they all pretty much the same?

1 - Yep. It is more like a hardened cream, not at all an hard soap.
2 - No idea. They come in they own bowls and I leave them that way.
3 - Bigelow and Green are the same soap (as well as Omega), with eucalyptus oil and menthol. White is for sensitive skin, containing green tea and aloe. I like both of them.

so, is there not an option to buy a puck sans bowl? that kinda defeats the purpose(for me) of buying a puck of soap over a tube of cream.

is there a product like Proraso that IS a hard soap, or does having it in soap form prohibit this?

Green vs White. do you find one to lather more or less easily than the other? more/less freezing mintyness?

#2. It really isn't a "puck", per se. It is more a bowl filled with very dense cream. Think a reallyyyyyyyy dense bowl or Cool Whip whipped cream.

So, yes, one could theoretically "scoop" it out of the green tub and into an old spice mug but I'm not sure why. The lid on the tub keeps all the mentholly goodness in. :w00t:

Hope that helps!

No, there isn't an option to buy a puck without the bowl. As I said, Proraso is not a hard soap. It is more like a cream but a little harder than the cream. It is not solid, hence the need for a container (the bowl) to sell it.

Personally, I prefer the bowl rather that the tube, because you can reuse the bowl.

Green vs White. Both lather easily and well. But if you are looking for mintyness, go for the green. The White does not contain any menthol, although it feels a bit freeze on the face, but not as strong as the green one.

Is there an hard soap like Proraso? Not that I know of... but I might be wrong. Maybe from another brand, that has something similar. But Proraso doesn't have an hard soap, that's for sure.

Bigelow/Proraso are the same yes. but I have to disagree with Omega being the same. The ingredients are different and Omega does not contain as much menthol as Proraso.

I think I saw that Omega contains some lanolin as well.

If I'm not mistaken, that was the old formula as Omega removed the Lanolin last year or 2 years ago... I was lucky to get the one with lanolin and it works wonders!

Really? :c17:

*shaking fist at shave apocalypse*

I had just saw it on a vendor page this week. Maybe its old stock or just old info.

Thanks guys. I would have been a little more upset if I had spent money on something that does not exist. You live, you learn, and you email vendors to see if they have any old stock

Maybe I will still get the Omega over the Proraso, as I like the black tub and it does still have coconut oil.

I have an Omega bowl and it not contains lanolin. Only the older formula does.

I have to add that the scent is *very* similar between Omega and Proraso.

Yes, Omega is one of those products that I would alternate with my Proraso when I'm looking for the Barbershop scent! I will probably buy a Tub of Omega when my Tub of Proraso is finished...

that right there is the point(for me) of buying product as a hard soap. no packaging, or at least very little, to throw away. Unless you need some more bowls for product rotation, it seems wasteful to get a whole new bowl with every batch when you could just drop a refill into the old one.

Darth Indiana, in answer to your questions about the Proraso presentation:

The "soap" has to come in its tub. As far as I know, Valobra is the only non super hard puck that comes wrapped only in paper. There is more plastic in a good size ketchup bottle than there is in the Proraso tub. Because the tub has a decent "friction" attached lid, it can be re-used for many things if you are thinking landfill fodder. You are paying only pennies for the tub packaging--not like they are saddling you with a $25 rosewood bowl or anything.

The Proraso soap (I only use the aloe/green tea white tub) is about the consistency of firm Play Dough children's clay. I have a small stoneware bowl/jar that has a lid with short handle that I put my semi-soft soaps like Proraso in, so yes, it can be dug out of its tub and re-shaped in your hands and put in the vessel of your choice. It's pretty sticky, and will really stick to your hands if you don't lightly oil your hands first.
