Proraso slightly different from CO Bigelow

I picked up three tubes of CO Bigelow shaving cream from a local Bath and Body Works. I just compared the ingredients and they are identical with the exception of three that are found in Proraso, but not CO Bigelow:

Amyl Cinnamal - mainly a fragrance so not important in my mind

Eugenol - Its properties make it a good local antiseptic and analgesic, so could be beneficial.

Geraniol - primarily used in perfumes, so not important in my mind

Any other observations from users of both?

Those are scenting agents that are required to be listed on products sold in the E.U. because of their status as known allergens. If Bigelow is only marketed in the U.S., it won't have to list those ingredients, even if it contains them. I don't know where Bigelow is marketed, but that would be the most likely explanation. Unless the scents are markedly different, you can bet both creams contain the same scenting agents. (I haven't ever used Bigelow, but all accounts are that it is virtually identical to Proraso.)

I believe there was a thread on this some months back. AFAICR, the differences were all identified as either a 'non-difference' related to labeling requirements as mentioned above, or a slight reformulation proraso made some years back (old products compared to new products), and that tubes of Proraso and Bigelow are indeed identical products.

I have a tube of Proraso and picked up the three CO Bigelow tubes today and they smell the same to me. I just noted the three ingredient differences and I agree that they are not that important. I love that I can get the Proraso equivalent locally.

I'm going with that.

This topic has surfaced from time to time.

FWIW, I consider the Proraso and the Bigelow to be the same.

Me too, which is why I will buy CO Bigelow locally now instead of Proraso over the internet. Also, the smaller 1.7 ounce tubes would be great for travel compared to the regular Proraso tube.

Not me - I prefer the ten times larger 17 Ounce tube!

I think that my Omega has a stronger scent, and it feels a bit more mentholated. I feel like it works better than CO Bigelow too, but that might be because I have the soft soap instead of the cream.

I have both tubes in front of me, and I can't tell a difference in scent or feel. American products don't typically list scenting agents. They usually just say "fragrance," or something similar. Those rules will always vary in different countries. Ever notice how our foods list each individual dye? I'm willing to bet that's not required everywhere.

I'd hedge a bet that they're more important than you give them credit for. Just because they're lumped under the general term "fragrance" and are not itemized doesn't mean they are not there, or are not important. If they really weren't present in the Bigelow cream, odds are good the Bigelow would smell completely different from the Proraso, and probably not as good.

Though the labels are different, the fact that the tubes and caps are identical implies they are also produced in the same facility.

I'm going to respectfully disagree that these are the same.

Similar? Yes, most assuredly. The same? No way.

I've been using the C.O. Bigelow almost every day for the past year, realizing that I could not get the large tube anymore I place my order at WCS (Thanks!) and got the "real stuff" yesterday.

I "had" to try it this morning, and noticed a slightly different scent, and the lather from the Proraso seemed to be a bit slicker.

IMHO these are not identical. Now it would be interesting to see if the Omega cream was the same as C.O. Bigelow...

(I know they have essentially the same ingredients, but are they the same amount of said ingredients?)

I have not used too many creams, but after using Kiss My Face cool mint mositure shave cream, I now know what a slick cream is. Wow, what a shave! I too have been using the Bigelow cream almost everyday for the past year. I really love the scent and cooling feeling. It's got good cushioning, but don't find it to be as slick as I would like. Maybe I'll try the the real Proraso. Anyway, I am after slick creams for now on.

After trying some cheap soaps and having some bad luck, I went to my local Bath and Body Works and picked up a tube of C.O. Bigalow and LOVE this stuff! And just for fun I add a squirt of glyceryn in my scuttle every morning with this cream. Its like having a lather factory on your face that's smooth and warm. It's almost better than . . . well, ok maybe not. But its a darn close second. :)

walds11, try the glycern addition. It may give you that added slickness you like. I got mine at Wal-Mart (if you're in the US).

This was my attempt at uberlather, but without the soap part. Its sweeeeeet!
