Proraso Sensitivity

Proraso (C.O. Bigelow brand) does not agree with my face. This is unfortunate because I absolutely love the smell and feel of it, but it leaves my face feeling red and raw. I'm not sure if this is common or a result of using the product in conjunction with medicated acne treatments that leave my face sensitive as it is?

My question is, though, do you guys think I'll encounter the same issues with other Proraso products? I hear great things about the Pre/Post and aftershaves, but would hate to spend the money if I have the same end results. Has anyone else experienced similar issues with Proraso that could weigh in on the matter?

The shaving cream causes the irritation, yeah. I'm asking if I should expect the same from other Proraso products, like the Pre/Post.

OK, wasn't sure since right now you have this in the aftershaves thread. :)

The shaving cream has eucalyptus oil in addition to being mentholated, so if your skin is sensitive to either of those ingredients the cream will give you trouble. For some people the eucalyptus oil especially is too harsh, which is why they make the "wheat germ" type in the red tube that only has menthol.

The pre/post aftershave has eucalyptus & menthol so that might be just as bad for you. The liquid cream aftershave would probably be fine, as may the aftershave splash which primarily just has menthol, alcohol, and some standard moisturizing oils.

Great, thank you for the info. I'm hoping a year or so from now when acne isn't as big an issue and I don't have to use the irritating medications, I can be a born-again Proasso-er..

And yeah, I wasn't entirely sure if this would fall under Cream or Aftershave forum, so I flipped a coin in my head

Eucalyptus oil is serious stuff at higher concentrations. Pesticide, disinfectant, etc. You may be sensitive to it. I've also known people who don't react well to menthol--have you tried that on its own?

Depending on what your actual acne med is, I'm putting my money on the menthol for now honestly.

Go buy some cheap barbasol or a store brand skin bracer knock-off, I'm willing to bet you get the same redness.

When I was younger I used pro-doesn't-work-great-active and man did that stuff totally make my skin sensitive to anything shave related especially skin bracer :frown:
