Proraso Red - Item of the Week 5/20/13

Hello to all.

This will be the thirteenth in a series of "item of the week" threads that I am promoting in the general shave discussion forum.

The rules:

  1. It is very simple. Use the item of the week for the week that it is scheduled and post your thoughts on that item in its thread.
  2. Everything else in your shave line-up may be rotated at will, but keep the featured item of the week as part of each shave.
  3. The weeks will start on Monday and end on Saturday. Sunday could be a free day, or an overlap day for the next week or whatever.

The thirteenth featured item of the week will be Proraso red shave cream/soap. Starting Monday, 5/20/13.

I only have a small sample jar of the red Proaso so I will run as long as the sample lasts then I am afraid I will be without product so may switch to one of my other sandalwood scented creams or go back to my normal helter skelter routine of product jumping

I tried to order some but the vendor I deal with for creams has been out of stock for a week or so

I am in! The red is one of my favourite creams. I have a tube, but I may pick up a tub l at the pharmacy just for kicks.

In. Starting tomorrow. Great soap and cream. Not sure if I can use one soap for an entire week though!

This is something for me! I really like the Proraso Red cream and I will put my 3017 journey on halt for this. I will be face lathering Proraso all week!

I don't have any, so I think I'll try to make a dent in the GFT violets soap that I have taking up space in one of my favorite bowls.

I have a brand new unopened tube to do this with starting monday. Never tried it but can't wait to.

+1
I'm in the same boat. Unopened tube I bought a while ago that I still haven't tried yet. I've sniffed it a few times and it smells great. Can't wait to use it this week.

After a long day outside in the garden, it was time for a shower and shave. I thought it would be a good time to try another rake in the bathroom.

Details:

Proraso red in the tub. I had a tube of Proraso red but I gave it to my brother.
Omega Pro 49 boar
Muhle R41 rake and Astra blade
Mergress with Astra blade
RR alum
Floid amber

Proraso red is an idiot proof soap. Real nice lather and great powdery scent. I find it works with either a badger or boar brush. I look forward to a week of Proraso sandalwood.

On a side note, this is the second time I used my R41. It took my whiskers off in one pass with ease.

OK if I use this one? :)

I got started with it today, using an English J2 Tech loaded with a German Wilkinson.
The brush used is the one pictured, a no-name blue handle job that belonged to my father - restored by Rudy Vey.

The menthol kick is perfect for this spring weather and the clean scent is wonderful with a hint of wheat germ.

While I don't have any Proraso red, I'm eager to read everyones reply's about this product.

I wasn't crazy about the scent of sandalwood when I was younger, but it has grown on me over the last few years. So now I'm looking to try a sandalwood scented shave soap/cream soon. I've also had great shaves with COB, so I'm sure we'll hear the same about Proraso red.
