Proraso pre/postshave cream and alum blocks react?

I have a small jar of proraso eucalyptus & menthol cream (green) -PRG that predates my entry to DE/Wetshaving.

I'd always used it (then) as a post shave finisher which I'd always found bracing, cool and refreshing. I enjoyed the fragrance through the day as well.

Until I started DE, I had no concept of "prep" it's something I'm experimenting with and developing.. no real sequence or strategy.

  • Hot, wet face towels
  • soap/scrub/rinse
  • occasionally PRG
  • Applying an initial lather for conditioning and rinsing prior to the main shave.
I acquired a Osma stone when I began DE which I have taken to using as an all-over astringent (nicks or not) and technique-informer after rinsing off after two or three passes to finish my shave.
I really enjoy that.

BUT

Trying to use the PRG as my usual post shave finisher *after* the Osma stone is seeing the cream pill on my face and it no longer has the cooling effect and eucalyptus fragrance I remember and enjoy.

I'm guessing that the water in the cream might be reacting with the block residue.

On the principle that there's nothing New Under The Sun ™

Has anyone hit this before?
Should I just rinse a bit after the Osma then apply PRG?

Any other prep advice?

Thanks Guys.
A rinse after the Osma Stone did the trick

A little got lost in translation..;)

When an Australian says "..a bit.."

It's habitual understatement..

"Just got out of hospital. Had a bit of an amputation"

Or (I'm homeless)
"Had a bit of a bushfire, the house got a bit singed."

Or "We had a bit of a cyclone, the dogs decided to fly about a bit"

And so forth. ;)

Yes, the good old “just a bit”. It does get lost in translation. Only in Australia.
