Proraso pre/post??

So i have been shaving this week with Proraso pre/post (sensitive) and Proraso soap (sensitive). And i am loving it!!!!
I just have one question, through out the day i notice my skin to become more oily than normal. (even though i have oily/acne prone skin).
After my shaves i finish with a cold rinse, a "Sea Breeze" astringent and then a lil "Nivea Cooling" Aftershave balm:lol::thumbup1: (awesome scent)

My question is.. If i use the Proraso pre/post do i even need an ASB? And is this a cocktail to clog pores and flair up any acne?

Any thoughts? Let me know! thanks!

Could be the balm. I have oily skin and cannot use most balms. Seems I get oil-overload. May want to try a nice alcohol-based splash. Try the Proraso splash. Great stuff!!

I'm also a newbie, but i'm using proraso pre-post in my rotation, and i don't need anything else after that... and it's so cooling that i don't want sth to mess up with it...
I'm not a big fan of using too many product in aftershave routine... i like to put only one or two products to my face, because i have a feeling that if i put a lot of stuff on, then non of the products can do the job properly, because they get in the way of each other... and the scents combine...

but there are good combinations of AS products out there, you just have to find what works for you best...

that is my opinion, but you'll probably get a better advice from more experienced shavers here...

That is a wonderful combination. I am awfully fond especially of the Proraso sensitive soap. :thumbup1:

+1

If you don't want to lay out a bunch of cash, you could pick up an inexpensive local AS (in the US, my favorite is Aqua Velva Ice Sport) to see how alcohol splashes work for you in general. You can also try rinsing with some cheap store-brand Witch Hazel to help ensure that your pores are clean before applying the balm (or splash), though your Sea Breeze should be accomplishing this already.

Wow! Very cool ! Thanks for such a quick response! Alot of this is making sense, but the Nivea "cooling" has alcohol in it, and it's a very thin not heavy at all AS, even sometimes if im rough with a shave it will have a slight burn to it.
But i think you all are right, no need to put something on after such a great prep with the proraso!
I'm going to try the Proraso splash! I hear GREAT things about it:lol:, does it have alcohol in it?
Any other advice on "acne pron" skin?

Alcohol will dry out skin, causing it to produce more oil in response. Keep that in mind with any a/s you get. You could try one of the Thayer's alcohol-free witch hazels and see how you react to that, or any number of low alcohol-content splashes like Harris Pink or Humphrey's Witch Hazel. Surprisingly to me, Clinique Post-Shave Healer and Trumper's Limes Skin Food, both balms, work better than just about anything else.

Sounds good! Thanks rsp1202, i've been wanting to try Trumpers Limes Skin Food for a while now! I think's it about time! :)

You can always pick-up the GFT sample pack. You will get a few skin food in there, cologne and shaving cream...

yeah, getting the sampler set from trumpers is really great, but try to contact them first, so you can tell them what you want in it, because i ordered one myself about two months ago, and i didn't get any skin foods, or soaps like other guys did, because the content of the sample pack varies... lesson learned the hard way...

After shaving, I wash my face with warm water, then splash with cold. I think that does a good job of washing off any soap that might be left on my skin or on the margins of where I shave. After that, I usually just let it go at a splash of aftershave. I occasionally use a balm, but I try to keep the amount to a minimum to avoid any kind of oily sheen. That might be something to think about if you're getting some buildup--use as little as possible.

Proraso AS splash does contain alcohol, but not as much as most drugstore and department store aftershaves. It's very good to the skin.

I do confess that I prefer Spieck AS splash over Proraso for being skin-friendly.

Just to add to my previous post, I use a tiny amount of either the Skin Food or PSH, just enough of a thin film to do the job. Using more will leave my skin sticky since it's not absorbing all the balm. I get several good hours after the shave before needing to freshen up with cold or tepid water, a lot longer than when I've used an alcohol splash . . . a shame, really, since there are so many splashes I've liked or would like to try. I envy the guys who can just pour it on.

I've never used pre/post shave, but have heard great things about it and want to try it!
Just another great Proraso product. Not sure how well it works as a preshave, but it's nice to have minty fresh under your lather, or OD'ing it with Proraso soap. I find it very soothing and moisturising afteward. Just don't ladle it on or it can feel claggy.

I find that I use it more and more.As a pre shave it really ads a nice touch to a hot towel prep with whatever soap you use, and it is great for soothing a rough shave.

I only use it as a post shave, at most once a week, and only if I shave before going to bed (usually on a weekend). Reason being, it does tend to make my skin feel oily, which I don't like during the day while I'm at work. I view it as a weekly "facial treatment" as it were, and a way to rehydrate my skin. My face would not be able to handle it on a daily basis. YMMV

best

I really enjoy it as a prep, it really soaks in and that great "proraso" tingle is like nothing else, but i am finding out that there is nothing needed after the shave, no ASB or anything. This stuff is a realy "face protector".. but i can understand what your saying Drew, it is a pretty thick substance and an "everyday" use for my type of skin will cause problems, but in modertation this stuff is AMAZING!!

Could be you're using too much, I found the same until I cut it back, and applied with not quite dry hands - a bit of moisture cuts it down, gets the menthol going and it's smooth and light.

Granted, it might just not suit some, but worth a go.

I've tried using less, but then I don't get full coverage (I leave my face a bit damp when applying). It's no problem for me, as I usually use alcohol based after shaves anyway. The Proraso pre-post works great for me in the 1x/week capacity.

I was told to ask for skin food. I got all three. Also, I did not get coconut or rose shave creams. I emailed them, and they sent me those two, plus three more cream, without charge.

Trumpers is amazing!
