Based on all the chatter i bought a jar of the white proraso pre post cream. Tried it this morning with cella and did feel the extra glide just after the neck crease where im most apt to get burned. Great stuff!
+1. I do not use the Proraso Pre everyday, but I always have it on hand. I tend to use it more during the winter months than the summer.Works very well. When your setup and technique is golden, you won't need it IMO.

I have all 3 in the Green and my wife in the White, all very good products. You just put some on your fingers massage it in all over your face then lather up, some people even use it between passes before re lathering, and some after as a moisturizer or to sooth some razor burn and suchhow do you use it? after the shower rub it on prior to the lather? i assume don't take it off after? is it basically just extra lubrication? i'm just kind of researching what to get for my first DE experience and the proraso sounds like a safe bet. I was thinking of getting the soap and the aftershave but maybe i should get some of this as well?
My prep is wet the face 2 times, lather, strop and shave. If your blade, angle of blade and technique are good, including stretching, a carbon steel blade should have no problem cutting the stubble at the skin level. I use a slicing stroke, 30degree angle to the stroke and very low blade angle. I don't do any wtg. xtg and atg the neck gets atg only 2x. No irritation or weepers. I usually don't need a as balm although I use one anyway. When I first started, I needed pre shave, alum, lots of as balm etc. And still had loads of irritation. That doesn't happen anymore. So what changed is I do less prep but shave better. And I've even shaved with dial (3for a buck hand soap) with no issues. I usually use proraso t&h or tobs though.Since the pre shave is softening up your keratine faster I don't really see how it can be replaced by technique; you can leave your soap on your face for a couple of minutes or take a long shower before you shave but other than that I see no alternatives.
I alternate between Proraso and 3P pre-shave. I think it's just plain good for your skin and softens it up so you are less likely to cut yourself.
