Proraso Pre/Post Help

So I just used this today as a pre shave. Showered then got out and wet my face then applied some pre shave. I really like the scent. But I didnt notice that much of a difference. Did I use it right? Do you guys apply it after every pass, say if I did wtg/xtg would I apply it twice? Thanks.

Joe, can you describe what you mean by not "that much of a difference?" I am a cold water shaver, and I use this as a pre shave to increase the cold sensation. Personally, I dont know if it really impacts the quality of my shaves, but I do like the sensation. I only apply it one time just before I load my brush. I also use it post shave.

Well it didnt feel any different at all when I was shaving with it as it did without it. I dont know if its supposed to. But I did have less irritation after the shave so maybe it did work?

I shave before showering, so I wet my hands, rub in a healthy chunk of it for about a minute or two, then do my cool/warm water rinses to hydrate my beard, and then apply my lather. If I'm using Kyle's Prep, I apply the hot towels after I've rubbed in the pre-shave cream.

If you shower first, I'd recommend wetting your hands and rubbing in the cream, then leave it on while taking your shower, Then rinse it off just before you get out, or even wait until after you are out and have made your lather (assuming you bowl lather) before rinsing it off.

It hasn't worked for me very well to lather over the pre-shave cream.

It makes a BIG difference to my shaves; I'll never be without it.

Thanks for the help guys. How much do you use? and is the aloe and green tea pre/post also getting reformulated?

Joe go to http://www.italianbarber.com and look up the instructions for 3p Pre/Post shave cream as it is very similar to Proraso. You can also send Joe an email at Italian Barber as he is very knowledgeable and helpful with such matters.

I wasnt able to find the instructions lol but thanks.

The white version (aloe and green tea) was also reformulated. It's nowadays with greem tea and oatmeal.

Now that we're on it; how is it smell- and performancewise?

I do not reapply, but I do let it sit for about a minute before I lather. I feel my face get colder and then I know it is ready. I will try applying between passes and see if it makes a difference, that is a good idea i never thought of.

I have a stock pile of the menthol Pre/Post, I love it! and I hope that the traditional remains available!

I apply it post shower, and let it sit while I make my lather (I'm a bowl latherer) then I apply lather right over the pre. I do not reapply between passes, but I'll give that a try now.

I tried using it as a post, but it made my face "shiny" so I only use it as a pre.

This is how I use it as well when using it as pre-shave. Apply before lathering, and lather over it. I use it post-shave on occasion, but you need to use less product, because you no longer have any beard that will grab any product.

onefallinghope: If you by "traditional" mean the green (eucalyptus and menthol), it will stay for as long as Proraso stays - it is the main product line. If you mean the old formula the answer is no, it is not economical to produce two formulas of the same product. There are large stocks around though, so still time to grab more tubs if you like.

I am very upset that I can no longer use this product. I used it daily for a year and a half, but after the new formulation it causes my skin to break out in a rash. Has anyone else had this issue? I a very brand loyal consumer and I hate to leave a product that I love. I feel that proraso took something that wasn't broken and tried to fix it.

I've only been using it for a few shaves and have only applied once. It's a good thought to reapply before each pass although I've gotten good results just using before the first pass. I apply to a wet face with dry fingers and just lather on top of it. If you really want a cooling effect, try the Proraso pre shave with the Vostok shaving cream/soap from Queen Charlotte Soap, great sensation.

Interesting-- I get the opposite result, using it post-shave reduces shine (which I like). And the menthol cools nicely, too.

I think the new one is nowhere near as good as the old (vintage) one.
