What's new

Proraso is the best...so far!

I wish that there was Proraso toothpaste.

It's true, most Italians are such a grubby looking lot. But even when they're grubby looking, they look so immaculate. I don't get it. It's so unfair I want to cry. :crying:

I'm pretty new to this DE shaving stuff, so I don't really know what I'm talking about.

I have used the proraso shaving cream a couple of times, and I use the Proraso Pre & After Shave Cream, daily. I put it on before I shave and after I shave, and sometimes I just randomly put it on during the day. It helps me cool down. The other day I had a headache so I spread some on my forehead. I felt much better!

:badger: FORZA PRORASO! :badger:

PRORASO CURES ALL HUMAN ILLNESSES

Rome
Proraso, the inexpensive and ubiquitous Italian shaving range, has been found to cure nearly all human illnesses, a team of Italian, American and Canadian scientists announced today in an article published in the journal, "Shavology."

Dr. Merkur, the lead researcher on the project, shared his excitement over the research results. "This magic little green tube is just amazing stuff. In our first clinical trial we observed that the shave cream eradicated polio, halitosis and hangnails. When we added the pre/post product to the research protocol, we started to see really remarkable results!"

Prof. Rene Barbacide, a senior investigator working with Dr. Merkur, chimed in: "The combination of the green and red tubes, with a splash of the liquid after shave is really magical--it turns short, fat bald men into Brad Pitt for goodness sakes. Now, if we could just got those Italian men to use it for shaving they wouldn't look so grubby!"

Further research is in the planning stages.

Why are italians such a grubby looking lot? (I can say this as I am one) You'd think with a marvelous product like PRORASO they would be the cleanest shaven people on the planet.

It is still by far the best cream yet. It lathers great, feels great, shaves great, smells great, it even tastes great. I wish that there was Proraso toothpaste.

I think that I have found my genre of shaving cream and I am open to suggestions of other creams to try that are just like or similar to the magical green tube cream....

Somebody pick me up from the Ground !!!!!!!!!!

Is the green tube of Proraso the same as the C.O. Bigelow brand they produce for Bath and Body Works? I bought a tube of that one day while shopping with my wife. I wound up using it with an old bristle brush, and I like it so much I've decided to upgrade: The brush, the razor (to DE), the works. Anyway, back to the question, are they the same stuff?

Similiar.....Very Similiar. It has been reported that Proraso makes the Bigelow product, but with a slightly different Formula.

Proraso is very worthy of its name PRO RASO !
Not to be pedantic (OK, maybe... to be a bit pedantic), but the name Proraso has nothing to do with "Pro" as in professional, but it derives from the latin "pro", which means: for, to the advantage of, in help of....
Proraso: "It helps your shave", as reprised by the italian slogan used by Proraso for the last 50+ years: "Proraso, aiuta chi si rade" (Proraso helps those who shave).

Does anybody have an knowledge of whether or not the Italian's use Proraso. Is it like Edge Gel over there? Or is it some obscure novelty product?

Yes!! Indeed, found in most supermarkets, in all toiletries stores and widely used . After all, we all got our introduction to Proraso when being shaved by the local barber: they all used it back then! In some parts of Italy, especially in the South and in the Islands, men still go to the barber for a shave on Sundays! What a great tradition! (unfortunately waning in the more industrialized and frantically-living North).
PREP is almost as popular as Proraso, by the way!

Mrob,

great post!!! I laugh so hard I cried.

slcsteve,

That is an impressive list!! you captured past and present beauties!!!

I think we all knew that ? dont we ? that was kinda a NO Brainer what I call it, if they wanted it to be called prof. then it would be

Professionale di Crema di Raso ! Ive heard at the B&B stairways Lathermeister is in the making of such a Crema ... oh the talks that goes on here you wouldnt know !

I keep hoping Proraso will work for me since it's inexpensive, but I'm just not getting good shaves with it. Maybe I've been spoiled by Cremo-Cream though.

Hi, utter newbie here.

I've just been overhauling my shaving stuff, after years of unnecessary shaving rash. Got some Proraso in the Green Tub, i had some questions in relation to this product compared to the tube.

Out of the Proraso Green tub and Green Tube:

1. Which is the stronger smelling?
2. Which is easier to get to a serious lather?
3. Which provides a stronger cooling sensation?
4. Which provides a smoother shave? (In your opinion?)

so far i really like this stuff, and my KoS and Somerset Oil/Gel collection is being phased out. Next to be upgraded is the Mach 3, but baby steps right now.

PD

I just bought the Bigelow to compare to the Proraso green, the Bigelow formula is missing three ingredients.

I went to google what those were, and I came up with some interesting results.

These ingredients are in the Proraso Green tube, and NOT in the Bigelow tube:

Amyl Cinnamal, Eugenol, Geraniol,

Geraniol= Fragrance additive, aka Oil of Rose

Eugenol= Local Antiseptic/Anesthetic

Amyl Cinnamal= Fragrance additive. Note, this chemical is also considered a mild irritant by some sources. There is conflicting data on this however.

So those are the three ingredients that are different.

Proraso does have a stronger scent, and a stronger cooling effect, but so far I think I might like the Bigelow cream better.

I like the Proraso green, but I think the eucalyptus oil may be too much for my skin. That said, the smell and lather are fantastic. I've tried the tube, tub, and the pre/post.

If the Bigelow cream is a bit old those three ingredients may still be present but not listed as they are included under the generic definition "profumo/perfume"

I think that the new EU regulation that imposes the listing of certain suspected allergens is in force from less than a year,so the two products might still be the same stuff under different names even if the ingredient list doesn't match.
