Proraso green conundrum

Numbs. There's nothing special in it to make it more protective. I actually don't use it much because besides the smell (which I dislike) the numbing effect makes me uncomfortable. I've got a feeling I'll be rinsing my face after a shave and my ear will fall off.

But does it matter? If you can't tell the difference, it's doing its job.

I think both. I haven't tried the new soap, but I just finished a tub of proraso green and moved on to a new soap. I found the proraso to be very easy to make a very protective lather. As I've moved to a new soap, I'm getting some razor burn as I learn how to exactly dial in the lather. (I think I've got it now.)

When I looked at some bengay and I think icy hot, I realized the active ingredient is menthol.

I don't find it makes my face "numb" at all. I get a nice little tingle from the menthol and eucalyptus but by no means would I say it has a numbing effect. Proraso soap is fantastically slick and protective, all of them. I do find the White tub slightly more slick than the Green (though both are slick) and the Red cream is right up there too with the White (very close to the White in slickness but more of a thicker consistancy).

i dont know if there is a difference but i have a cream, in a green tube,, C.O. Bigelo by proraso. i can use this stuff even with a blade that may have over stayed its welcome, and i get a fantastic shave. (i can use a single blade for a long time)
true indicator to me that bigelo is a superior cream to many soaps i have.

I'm actually serious.

Is it actually more protecting or does it numb your face enough that you don't feel the razor burn?

Well, razor burn usually does not come on until a short time after you finish shaving. By then, the cooling/numbing effect is going to have worn off. So I don't think Proraso is going to help you at all with razor burn. If razor burn is the problem, alum block the is the solution.

The best solution is really easing off on the pressure and not going over areas multiple times unless you have lather there!

I guess I didn't clarify razor burn though. What I'm finding is AS application right after a Proraso shave has almost no burn but with summer over I've been using some other creams and I'm noticing the burn of the AS.

So I was wondering if the Proraso is hiding bad technique or is it just more protecting than other creams. I have a feeling it's more protecting.

I'll start using less pressure and see what happens.

Proraso/Bigelow is one of the easiest products on the market to lather. I'd bet that because of this, you get very consistent lather which in turn would be more protective. I get incredible shaves from Proraso.
