What's new

Proraso....anything else

So I'm a noob to this (1 week of wetshaving) and I love it!!!! I look forward to it.

I went to the classic shaving store last week in Palm Springs and picked up some Proraso pre-sahave and shave cream. I used it for the last 2 days and it's great (I've been using AoS Sandalwood prior to).

Anything else along the Proraso line anyone could recommend. I'm looking more at mentholated creams, maybe soaps as well.

Ingram's is pretty good, too.

But try some other stuff that you can get at the store

Trumper's Limes
Taylor's Avocado
T&H Lavender

You mean you went there and all you got was Proraso????? Well, at least if you picked one cream you picked just about the best.

Since you're using the shave cream and pre/post I'd also recommend the after shave balm and after shave splash. The balm is great. Cools and heals the skin at the same time. The splash will give you a little initial sting since it has alcohol in it. However, it will also give a menthol cooling effect after that - sort of the trademark of Proraso products. I'll always try to use all 4 together and as a group they deliver a great experience.

I picked out some other stuff as well. But I didn't want to overwhelm myself just yet.

You need to tell us everything you got. You must!!

BTW, I like Proraso aftershave balm, although it does not smell like the cream.

All you need now is Mama Bears "Awakenings" soap. It is AMAZING!:thumbup1: and for only $8!

And if your really wanting a "cooling" shave.. you can Load your Brush with the Mama Bears "Awakenings"(since it's a great glycerin based soap) and have a little Proraso SC in your bowl for a great SUPERLATHER!!! Some of the slickest lather around! :biggrin1:

You can't go wrong with Mama Bears "Awakenings"!

Ok...

Proraso pre/post shave cream
Proraso shave cream
Classic shaving lg puck of Bay Rum
Shave bowl

Like I said....nothing to overwhelm myself but I can already tell this is a slippery slope......I was tempted to buy some more stuff

Between this and my vinyl/audiophile hobby, I've learned the importance of saying "no". But sometimes I forget...:001_rolle

If you dig the cooling effect of the Proraso, I would suggest the following:

Mama Bear's Awakenings & Rosemary/Mint soaps
The Shave Den Subzero soap/cream
Nancy Boy signature cream
Tom's of Maine mint cream (combine this or Proraso with the MB soaps for some fantastic superlather!)

And just so you know, if Proraso is difficult to come by or pricey in your area, you can always head up to Bath & Body Works for the C.O. Bigelow shave cream. It's Proraso, made by Proraso, but re-branded for Bigelow.

Welcome to the demise of your disposable income...I mean, welcome to B&B!

Sadly, Tom's of Maine shaving creams are no longer in production. :thumbdown

Horatio is 100% correct about Santa Maria Novella, but the pre/post shave is also a terrific product, and definitely worth a try. Probably the best pre-shave product I own. You can check out all SMN products including fragrances here http://www.lafcony.com/

Not cooling, but GFT Limes is my favorite cream. Proraso/Bigelow is a solid cream.

Love that Trumper's Limes! Great stuff. So is their coconut and almond.

How exciting to go to a real store and smell the stuff before you buy it. I would go insane and leave with a huge bag of goodies.

glad to know there are other hard core proraso fans out there- i've been enjoying it since it was available at target!
