What's new

Proof is in the pudding

(This is long winded. If you're impatient, and I don't blame you, maybe read the last paragraph first)

Well, we're all different.

I've said, my reason for switching to DE was not the price (as downright irritating as it was) and it was not for shave closeness. It was for irritation. I always used the Gillette 2 blade cartridges (I tried the M3, but couldn't use that at all, and I used Schick 2 blades and Bic disposables wayyy long ago, don't count them anymore at all). At any shave, around 5 minutes after doing the alcohol-based after-shave ritual, suddenly my face and neck would start to seep a little blood, from everywhere. It would gradually get worse, and I'd be pouring blood. It would take 10 minutes to a half hour to stop.
I've never had anything of the sort with the DE. Sure, I've nicked myself a few times, due to lack of experience, but no major bleeding.

With the cartridge, my skin would heal to the point where I could shave again after 4 days. Due to the fact that I really dreaded shaving, I'd almost always shave just once a week. Sometimes I'd just get lazy and use the beard trimmer and not shave for a month.
With the DE, I can shave every day, no problems.

With the cartridge, I'd have BBS every time. Well, no stubble or whiskers or hair of any kind, but my skin was not really smooth either. It was kind of rough.
With the DE, I hadn't intended to get a BBS shave. I was happy with stubble so short I couldn't see it, but I could feel it running my fingers ATG. Compared to having a couple days to a week's growth almost all the time, what I was getting was great!

Tonight though, I got BBS with the DE. Granted, only on my face. I can feel no stubble on my face whatsoever, and my skin is perfectly smooth and soft. On my neck, it's near perfect, but still not perfect. It may be a long time before my neck gets that way, but I don't even care if it doesn't.

So, to everyone who says they could get a better shave with whatever cartridge than a DE, I say, "Good for you!"
But, NOT ME. This DE shave is by all means the best shave of my life, and I am confident I could not do this with a multi-blade cartridge if my life depended on it.
Of course, I owe everyone here thanks. It's only because of what I've read of your experiences, and all the input and suggestions!

good for you. sounds like you found what works best for you. I always thought that wet shaving was cool and people told me for the better shave experience.

@Psicko, Thanks! Yeah, it just keeps getting better and better. It's amazing how I've progressed so far.

Congrats on finding a solution that works for you. Shaving was also quite the chore for me too before changing to DE. Now my beard can't grow quick enough for me to get back in the bathroom and have another go at it.

Thanks, guys! I hope everyone is having this much success. But, from what I've read here, there are two groups. Those that are, and those that are about to.

Incidentally, I had to get something out of the corner of my medicine cabinet where the Gillette cartridge razor is gathering dust. I pulled it out and looked it over, and I wonder how I ever managed to use that contraption. It seems like years since I did.
