Professions that don't allow a beard

Time's changing. And with that the once improper, i.e. wearing full beard on your job, now becomes proper and socially acceptable. Especially for some branches.
But there are the ones which did not change. For example no US president after William H. Taft has worn a bead/mustache.

What other professions which absolutely requires a clean shave do you know of?

I have to be clean shaven when I'm offshore. If the worst happened and I needed my respirator a beard wouldn't allow it to seal properly.

I am with the police dept. No beards. Mustaches are allowed but I will never wear just that. Many officers get around the order by having a "bump card", meaning shaving causes irritation to the skin.

I am in a police department also. We are strict on hair length and moustaches. No beards allowed at all. We are a smaller dept (92 sworn) so no one has tried to challenge no beards with the "skin irritation" story. However I wouldn't be surprised if someone eventually does.

I work at the Exxon refinery in Baytown,Tx.
Even though I am in an office I have to be clean shaven so I can be properly fitted with breathing air equipment if there is a chemical spill or leak.

I come from a family of firefighters, and they too can't wear full beards. The seal on their air packs is compromised by a beard. When I was a little kid (way back in the swingin' 60's) there was a big to-do about newbies having to shave off their facial hair when they came on the force because of that.

This is what I was going to say. As a Security Officer, we have to follow the same standards.

Some food prep/service places make you wear a beard net kind of thing.

I have seen this at the hospital.

I used to be a volunteer firefighter. Since my job required me to be clean shaven, this wasn't an issue. :001_cool:

I work for the Federal Government as a "wildland firefighter" smokejumpers, hotshots, etc and a good percentage of us do keep facial hair. It's hard to even shave when you cain't take a shower for several days at a time.

I am a Sheriff's Office Detective, "No Beards" allowed, unless you fit into one of the undercover unit designators. Some other area agencies allow beards for Investigators, and a couple allow goatees on street Officers. Someone brought up the shave bump thing here a few years ago. Sheriff's answer, "that's tough, No Beards".

We've brought it up to our Capt. a couple of times, "hay, how about just a goatee". Answer, a grumbling type laugh (not a real laugh) with head shake while walking away.

Emergency personnel will be forever plagued by traditions. Not that I think this is bad, but some thing will never change.

+1 on being a police officer. No beards. Except those of us on the narc unit, but I still shave all the time anyway.... Go figure. LOL.
