Vista Outdoors (CCI, Federal, Remington) has announced that they are again not accepting any retail orders for primers. Everything they make will continue to be used for the manufacture of ammunition.
Rising Material Costs Induce Vista Outdoors Ammunition Price Increases - https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2021/12/28/costs-rising-ammo-vista/
While this news isn’t happy news for anyone involved, to put things in perspective what we are looking at for a worst-case scenario is perhaps a six-cent increase for retail priced shotshells (12%) and about a $1.50 increase in price for 1lb of powder (considering a $30 average price per pound). Meanwhile, primers from any of Vista Outdoors’ retailers will not be accepted which is a huge blow to reloaders everywhere especially considering many of us have used up our last reserves of primers probably sometime in 2021. It is unknown if further price increases are coming down the road and it is unclear as of writing how these price increases will impact the rest of the firearms industry on the whole.
