Pre-shave alternative

After months and months of trying and giving up and trying again all sorts of pre-shave routines I have finally found one that works great with both creams and soaps (little better with soaps). I started to use Cremo cream as pre-shave. I wet my face or head (I'm a head shaver as well), apply Cremo cream, go to load my brush with whatever I choose, change blades, strop, you get the idea. Now, I strictly face lather but I tried the method with bowl lathering as well to see if it works and it does. So after I load my brush I give my head/face a quick hot water splash to get the most out of the water activated Cremo cream and lather as usual. The result is a noticeable improvement in the slickness, comfort and closeness. In the past I tried everything from oils, Proraso pre-shave cream, glycerine, G.F. Trumper Skin food to CF non oil based pre-shave. After few shaves I would get tired of it as it didn't seem to make much of difference. I discovered this method after another member here used a similar idea only with the same soap, cream that he would use for the actual shave. I decided to give it a try with Creamo cream that I use when traveling and which on its own is pretty good. The results for me are worth sharing....

Glad to hear someone else has tried this recently. There have been a few members here who have tried it and posted about it, including me. I thought it was much better as a preshave than as a shaving cream.

I think when you use a soap afterward, you are basically making a superlather on your face.

The reason I started with this is, I would usually put canned lather on my face simply to soften the beard as I shampooed my hair. I got this idea from getting barber shaves where they used hot lather, then covered it with hot towels. This initial lather would be wiped off. Similarly I would rinse off the cheap lather before shaving. Then I'd use preshave oil and a quality cream or soap (or croap!). But since I had a bunch of Cremo and wasn't crazy about it as a shave lather, I started using that. Eventually I stopped rinsing it off, and had it replace the initial lather and the oil. It worked pretty well. But, for me anyway, a quality oil still works better.

I use a homemade oil mix for my preshave, but do add the Cremo into my lather with my GFT cream. Holy smokes what great UBER!

I use Cremo as a pre shave every day. I prefer it to the Proraso Pre/Post. Cremo adds a nice slickness!
