Pre de Provence or l'Occitane?

the Cade is fabulous stuff, alas I am awaiting a L'Occitane promotion or sale that will never be eventuated in Australia. Pricey, but top notch and you don't need much.

PdP = I have no idea

The Cade balm is very nice. To me, it has a very persistent, wintery scent, very much like the shaving soap. It's quite heavy--probably requires the smallest amount to be effective of any balm that I use. If you want to try it out, the folks at the l'Occitane stores are very good about samples. My daughter wanted to get me some for Christmas, so they stopped in and the manager gave her two tubs (about the size of a lip balm) so that I could try it out.

On a related note, if you're stocking up on Cade, I think that the shaving soap is great but the shaving cream is a dog. It smells wonderful but requires an enormous amount to get a good lather.

I haven't ever tried the PdP, so I can't add anything to that.

This is slightly off-topic, but am I the only one who wonders if Pre de Provence and L'Occitane use the same manufacturers for their products? A lot of their products come in similar containers and have nearly identical scents - check out the hand cream, for instance; they are almost dead ringers for each other. Both companies trade on the image of traditional Provencale craftsmanship but are clearly international, mass-produced brands that are widely available. I wonder if they are two brands of the same company aimed at different market segments, or perhaps they are different companies that use the same producer (kind of like the three Ts use Creightons), or maybe I'm just all wet looking for conspiracy theories. Any thoughts?

I used the PdP last night for the first time - it's a wonderful balm - heavy, nicely scented (stronger scent than the soap, in my opinion, but the same scent...).

Can you go wrong with both? Folks who've responded who have used the Cade love it - I love the PdP - I suspect that both are top-notch products. Which scent do you like best? (I like them both, of course....)

Whatchoo gonna do?

My guess is that both are excellent, so no need to figure out which one is empirically better. I have the Cade soap, but not the ASB. I do have both the PDP soap and ASB, and like them both a lot. The scent is indeed stronger in the ASB than the soap.

I'd rather have a glass or squeeze plastic bottle than a tube for aftershave though.

I don't have the Pre de Provence ASB but I do have the L'Occitane Cade ASB and the L'Occitane ASB. As for the Cade, I think it's top notch. The other ASB is not so hot as it has to me an unpleasant soapy scent to it. So of the 2 L'Occitanes I'd suggest the Cade.
