"Practice Razor"

Interested in learning to hone using lapping films (for starters, at least) and came across this "practice razor" for $20:

For the record, I'm not expecting to buy a quality razor here. Just something to practice on. Is this a decent idea, a bad idea, or simply inferior to other means of acquiring straight razors for honing practice?

I have no experience in these matters so take anything I say with a large grain of salt. I would probably go a different route with a first razor. I have recently picked up quite a few very cheap but quality razors off of e-bay. For $20 plus shipping you could probably get a really decent razor that you would not have to do so much work setting a bevel on.

I should mention that I already have a sight unseen razor from Larry at whippeddog which I am enjoying quite a lot. It's my baby. That's why I want a different razor to try honing before I go to town on that one. Also, so that I don't ruin my only shaving edge while I try this out.

That being said, I think I'll have a look on ebay...

There is a thread somewhere about the GD, before putting in the stone there are a couple of minor adjustment you should do (taking the shoulders away in some cases, remove the scales in others). Try to find that thread and read it up!

Order a unhoned sight unseen razor from Whippeddog. The one with flaws cost about 10$.

You need to get a razor which will take an edge, one with which you will shave. How else will you get feedback about your honing?
