Post your shaving horror stories

Just as the title states share your horror stories about shaving, could be a 7th shave feather in a futur on 10 or a cream or soap that quite didn't agree with your face.

I don't know what I was thinking.
The following shave left my face super red, on fire, and nicked up.

I had a Merkur blade in my Merkur Classic, some Real Shaving Company cream that just wouldn't lather properly, and it was my first attempt at ATG.

The only aftershave I had at the time: Nivea Balm.

Anyway, after the damage was done, I ran to this forum and everyone was very helpful. From that day on, I decided to:

never use a Merkur blade
use only the 3 Ts if I'm itching for a British cream
use Witch Hazel

and, most important, realize it's not the products' fault. :biggrin1:

The worst shave of my life was when I was travelling in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The heater broke in the place I was staying at and I tried shaving used cold water. I think half of my facial hair was cut and half of it got yanked out. Pretty brutal :(

The worst time was the first time that I ever used The Art of Shaving cream from a sample that I got through the mail. I had never used any AOS products before and had only been at the DE shaving thing for about a couple weeks. :001_unsur When I got halfway through my second pass, my face started to burn. The third pass was virtually unbearable. Seconds after I managed to finish my shave, my face literally felt like it was on fire! :mad5::mad5::mad5: It was the most excruciating pain on my face in my life! :a46: Apparently, I had an allergic chemical reaction to the AOS cream that I used and my face started to burn and peeled like an onion for the next several days. My face was so messed up that I didn't pick up my razor to shave again for a week. :surrender::nono:

dollar general verison of a bic, cold hard water (not quite ice or a rock) and canned goop that was old. i still wake up with night sweats.

A Feather blade in a "red tip" Super-Speed managed to remove quite a bit of my epidermis, resulting in an extremely raw face--and a determination to never ever do that again.

Target brand disposable 3 bladed razor. Thought it would simulate my Mach 3 (back before DE shaving)...I thought wrong. My face would've looked (and felt) better had I have just tweezed the whole thing. Yes, the shave was that bad.

Using a gillette slim and feather for the first time 2 things went wrong;

1. Not closing the doors properly
2. Using 10 for an ATG pass

And yes it ended in tears and alot of :cursing: especially after applying AS!

One of mine happened just yesterday. Had pimple. Planned to shave around pimple. Forgot pimple was there. Lost pimple...and A LOT of blood. I tried after a few mins to the styptic pencil but I couldn't deal with that I let it bleed for a while instead.

My worst shave was probably my first go at DE shaving. I was using Merkur blades in what I'm pretty sure was a Parker 91. At the time I was also using canned shaving foam :bored: . This was about a year ago, before I knew how to shave with a DE; so I ended up treating it like a cartridge razor: loose wrist with pressure. I gave up about halfway through the shave because of all the blood, and swore off DEs from then on.

Then I found this site, my dad's old SS, and some good blades, and it's been smooth shaving from then on.

I was shaving with a Futur and a Feather. It was probably my third shave with the Futur. I had cranked it up to 2 and decided it would be a great idea to go ATG on my upper lip. Well, the Futur exposes a lot of blade, and in one blink of an eye I had rotated the head of the razor just enough for an edge to catch on an upstroke and took a piece of meat out of my lip... it took 3 weeks to totally heal.. that sucked... and made me very cautious of that razor.:crying:

My worst story is somehow I bumped the side of my nose with my slim...got a good cut right on my nose....bled forever. :001_huh:

I managed to do the same thing with a 40's style Superspeed, although the cut didn't come from the cutting edge of the blade, it came from the ends of the blade that hang out past the endcaps. Cutting the side of your nose results in a cut that bleeds like crazy, as does cutting the pink part of your lip (which I somehow did today with a TECH!!! ***??)

My worst mishaps have been when I shaved with a Gem Micromatic Bullet Tip using subpar lather, and got a 1" long significant cut, that took over a week to heal, and even had a scab. Bad lather + Inflexible blade = shaving disaster waiting to happen.

Also, the last two days I have played around with a Shavette, and carved my face up pretty good (3-4 vertical visible cuts on my face, and a couple of places where I caused a slight divot in the skin).

I have pretty much given up on this endeavor, as I can get nick free shaves with my DE, and SE razors almost all of the time; I have no need to dabble with the Shavette, and walking around in public (and working a job among the public) with a hacked up face is quite embarrassing.

Seriously? I'm using first one of a pack now it seems fine. I hope the rest are good as well.

In my opinion, the DG blades are Dorco's; Dorco's are one of the blades that receives the most inconsistent results among users: some love them, some think they are the worst blade ever.

I myself have developed my technique enough that I can use just about any blade; the Dorco's feel a little less smooth than other blades.
