Hi everyone. Now that Kanoyama is no longer making strops, who’s material is the most Kanoyama like in feel/draw? Mine have all been glassy, smooth and slick. Where else can I find a similar strop?
Don't think you have to go to shell cordovan for a slick draw,
I have a fair number of strops, including Kanayama and shell cordovan from Neil Miller and Torolf at Scrupleworks. I love the fast draw of cordovan, but my daily driver is Vegetable tanned Horsehide from Scrupleworks. Not 100% as fast as cordovan, but 90% and equally as effective.
Scrupleworks is my "go to" stropmaker.. I always get 2 1/2 inch width with barber ends, in an extra long length, but he will make whatever you want. I even have an extra long shell cordovan from Torolf, but here he is limited by the sizer of the hide.
