Poor Quality Semogue 1460 or Just Bad Luck?

Is this cracking normal for this paint finish on a Semogue 1460 or is this just bad luck? The brush is brand new.

Thanks.

Its not uncommon for painted Semogue handles to crack eventually (both of mine have), but not when they're brand new. I'd contact the vendor you bought it from and ask for a replacement.

I did and he offered a replacement or a partial refund, so given that it may crack anyway, I took the partial refund (45%). I can live with it.

My Semogue 1305, bought from a vendor here, cracked within a month after purchase. The vendor promised to make it right - I declined as he was just getting into selling Semogues. But I would not buy another Semogue with a painted handle and urge others to consider this known issue.

+1. I only buy the plain wooden handles now and add a touch of varnish myself if feeling OCD.

Thanks all for the feedback. The vendor did make it right with a partial refund and I'm satisfied from that aspect. I used it this morning and it's a really nice brush. I think my next Semogue will be a 610 Black. It has the same knot (21/50) but I think the acrylic handle should be much more durable. I can make the 1460 my travel brush.

I may be selling off my Muhle Stylo with TGN Grade A Silvertip soon!

Do you soak the whole brush? There seems to be a consensus around here that soaking the handle will cause cracking in the paint. I have a 1305 that's been my daily brush for several weeks now. I take care to not submerge the handle while the knot is soaking. Other than that, it seems to be hit-or-miss. It's a shame, really. The painted handles are beautiful. I bought the red/white/green Italian Barber version of the 1305 as a gift for a friend, and it was honestly the most gorgeous brush that I've seen.

It seems really wrong to me that you should have to worry about whether or not you get your shaving brush wet though.
