Straight for sure, trying to go BBS with a DE gives me a lot of irritation. However to be fair, I have about 300x more practice with straights so its its not really a fair comparison.
If I had as much experience with a DE as I do with a straight it would most likely be reversed. What I can state for sure though is shaving with a straight is much more fun and exciting even after all this time.
I've been thinking the same thing for a while now, and I can't escape the same conclusion. A straight shave feels better, even once the hair grows back. The hair tips must be feathered or split. The only thing I can fathom is DE blades really are sharper and therefor leave the stubble a bit more pointy/sharp
BBS is BBS. It doesn't matter which shaving tool delivers it. I find it easier and quicker to get BBS with a DE but I enjoy the use of a straight so much more.
If properly executed, I get an equally close shave with either a DE or a straight. BBS is BBS, no? When using a straight that close shave lasts longer through the course of the day. I don't know why exactly this is!?!? The only thing I can fathom is DE blades really are sharper and therefor leave the stubble a bit more pointy/sharp, so when DE cut hair and a straight cut hair protrude out of the skin the same distance it is easier to feel/notice the DE cut hair. That is my crackpot theory and I am sticking to it.

+1 It may be easier to get a clean face with a de, but the post shave skin softness of the straight shave is unparalleled in my de shaves and the straight shaves are more satisfying.
Interesting theory and makes sense. The straight shave seems to last longer according to many, myself included. If properly executed, I get an equally close shave with either a DE or a straight. On a good day with a straight, I touch my face afterwards and it's as if there was never any hair growth there at all in the first place, like touching the skin on one's forehead. It was this experience of a new type of BBS in my first few weeks of straight shaving that hooked me forever (and got me through crappy shaves).
