INFO! Politics, The Barber Shop and You

As in the rest of our Guidelines, this is a broad term for a simple reason. Should we try to narrow it down, we will end up being in the position of having to delete posts from members whose defence will be that "you didn't specifically say that it was prohibited, so I assumed that the topic was OK". We are lucky to have a thoughtful and well-behaved membership and the Moderator Team is happy to rely upon them.
Why have you not banned religion?
IMO you definitely should. Religion and
Politics both bring out the worst in
People..

Why have you not banned religion?
They have. From the Terms of Use:

"2. Realize that we take great pride in B&B being a work-friendly, internet oasis for gentlemanly behavior. This means that profanity, inflammatory comments regarding politics and/or religion, personal attacks, pornographic images, discussions of illegal or illicit activity, or any other ungentlemanly behavior as deemed inappropriate by the Administrators/Moderators, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Offenders will be dealt with swiftly. More to the point, if it's likely to be offensive, or if you wouldn't say it to someone in person, it doesn't belong here."

Or were you talking about the existence of religion? I don't think the mods are that powerful.

No I just mean banned from the forums
Religion and Politics are equally toxic
And bring out the worst in people..

Huh, I just noticed a thread has been sent down the memory hole. Thought it was still reasonably gentlemanly when I stopped paying attention to it, things must have gone south hard after that

Best practice is to report threads that violate the TOU. Moderators can’t read every thread or post. We count on members to self moderate and report threads. If you see something, just report it and move on.

What is interesting is hearing from people in other countries as to how the UK is handling Brexit. I am in the UK and have my own views on the situation but was talking to someone in Germany, their press is very criticial of UK government and how unprepared UK industry is for a significant change.

I dont think that we would be stepping on the toes of the TOU if we discuss how your media is reporting Brexit, if at all, as opposed to giving an opinion or criticising certain politicians or political parties.

Mods, please delete if you think that this is unacceptable.

You have several repeat offenders. Reported for months and years. Same stuff goes on.

Not a mod, but no. Too many people are not capable of having a gentle and friendly discussion on anything remotely political.

This is not a comment on the upcoming election at home, but a bit of a rant: I've been away from England since 1995, and when this election was called, I thought perhaps I should register for a postal vote. I went online, and I cannot, as I have been away too long. I have lost the right to vote in my country's elections. I was staggered. Here in Singapore, it is illegal for their citizens not to vote regardless of where they live.
