Polishing razors

I have quite a few vintage razors and I love to keep them in the best condition I can. I was wondering how to get them polished and shining without destroying the plating. I was wondering if you guys have any tips.

I don't polish mine, just clean them occasionally with Scrubbing Bubbles cleanser and a soft bristle toothbrush. Shines them up nicely!

Like Mark, I generally use Scrubbing Bubbles and an old toothbrush. This generally gets them clean and shining like new. I did recently pick up a Fatboy and an un-notched 47 SS on the bay pretty cheap. They were pretty crusty and oxidized. So after the Scrubbing Bubbles I gave them a quick polish with some MAAS metal polish I picked up at Ace hardware. It worked like a champ and both look almost like brand new now.

I use some Maas or Blue Magic metal polish to bring out a little shine on nickel razors. Some razors shine up better than others depending on how bad the surface damage is to begin with. I don't polish gold razors.

Believe it or not, I use Barbicide to disinfect and clean my razors. It strips off everything including the soap scum. I have used an old toothbrush for those hard to get places that collect hair and what not, but usually just a dip in Barbicide for 10-15 minutes will do. Rinse with soap and water and you're done!:001_smile

I purchased my Barbicide from Ebay.
I figured if it's good enough for Barber shops it's good enough for me.
Then I tried it and it worked better than I thought. Not only did it disinfect, it seemed to make the razor's shiny.
*shrugs* who knew?
