Please recommend loft for my new custom brush

Hi Folks,

I am having my first custom brush made. It uses the WSP 2 band superfine 23 mm knot. I am a bit uncertain as to what the loft should be. I both face and bowl lather and would like a brush with a little backbone.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Generally twice the knot diameter is a good spot. But I am not familiar with the WSP knots.

I had the chance to use the WSP SuperFine hair in a 26x52 configuration and it was perfect for face lathering and did well in the bowl as well. I think if it were me I would stick around the formula that Mike recommended, perhaps erring on just a tad more loft if you bowl lather frequently. WSP's Monarch has the Superfine knot set at 53mm of loft so you may search out reviews for that brush to see what owner's thought.

Why not ask for the handle to be drilled very deeply, and glue it in yourself after trying several different lofts. Coins and hot glue(used very sparingly) are great tools to temporarily set the knot.

+1 If you can not do that, the standard loft on them at 53mm if fine. i had both the Monarch HMW and the 2-band and they had plenty of backbone for face-lathering. Great brushes. If i were you, i would set it at 51mm if you face-lather primarily and or keep it at 53mm if you like both bowl and face-lathering. Good luck.
