Please recommend a good boar brush.

I have never used a boar brush and I would like to try one just for the experience. Could someone recommend some good buys that are available. Also are boar brushes better for face lathering or bowl lathering?

Omega 10066/80266/10275/10049/10083 (all of which I have)

For face and bowl lathering. Not as nice as semogue but a good start if you have no boar experience.

Omega if you don't want to spend much money (I have the 10019 - 20102 - 10098 and am very pleased with them) or if you can spend a little bit more go Semogue.

was wondering if someone would post that B&B brush.

I think I might get one just cause I love this site so much

I really like the Omega 11137, my first and only boar brush. Good for lathering soaps.

Lovely handle! And the specs are the same as my 10066...

But I like this handle more (I have the synthetic and not the boar)

+1 on the Omega 10066. My first brush, and a great one too! I bowl lather, so i couldn't tell you how well it face lathers. However it breaks in fast, doesn't have much funk, and is so so soft when it is broken in.

Another vote for Semogue 1305. Love this brush, and for the price you can't beat it. I wouldn't consider anything else.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the SOC. The Omega pro is my only boar and I love it but the SOC gets so much love around here it will be my next purchase.

I have three boar brushes of three different sizes and it's tough to decide which one I like best – they're all so different!

The Semogue 620 is my smallest brush with a 50mm loft. It's easily the scrubbiest of my three boars, so it has the best feel for face lathering, and despite it's size it easily holds enough lather for 4-5 passes. I'm still breaking it in, so it's not as soft as it will be, but it's not prickly either and it has tons of backbone. The handle is REALLY nice – it looks great and is very comfortable in the hand despite it's small size.

Next up is the B&B Essential Boar. This is my jack-of-all-trades brush – it's great for face or bowl lathering. The loft on this one is 55mm and it has a surprising amount of backbone despite the length of the bristles. It broke in VERY quickly, so the tips have all split nicely and it feels very soft on the face. It holds plenty of lather, you won't be going back to the puck with this one. I'm not a huge fan of the look of the handle, but this is easily the nicest of the three brushes to hold.

And last is my Semogue Owners Club (SOC) boar. Compared to the other two, this is a monster of a brush. It has a much bigger loft, a much bigger handle and is quite a bit more dense than the other two. This thing eats up Cella like there's no tomorrow and probably holds enough lather for three four-pass shaves, so don't get this one if you're worried about wasting soap! Due to the longer bristles it has less backbone than the other two, but the denser knot feels great while face lathering, so it's no better or worse than the other two, just a different experience. It hasn't broken is yet, apparently Semogues take some time to reach their full potential, but it's only going to get better!
