Please help with info / bengall blade?

Hi, I'm Kyle from South Australia. I'm a newbie & this is my first post. My father has recently given me a Blade (Not inherited) and I would like to get any information about it if possible.
Thanks for your time.

You may know all this already, but it is a Sheffield steel (English) razor. Bengall is a pretty good brand I think. In horn scales. Sort of looks like it might have been repinned with a nail but I could be wrong. Box does not match the razor obviously. Needs a good bit of work but looks like it could be a shaver.

Welcome to B & B! I suggest looking in the sub forum Straight Razors. Good folks there will be happy to help.

Bengall was heavily marketed I Australia. All I can tell you is that they are excellent razors. I have a 6/8 and 4/8 and both are very good shavers. I would suggest you send it to someone to polish and hone. Definitely a keeper!

I have one that looks very similar except it's marked with the name of a store in Edinburgh, Scotland. Bengall/Cadman produced tons of these razors for sell all over the British Commonwealth. Barber shops, hotels, hardware stores, etc could get them engraved/etched with their company logo. I just shaved with mine this morning. I would say it's from the 1920s. Your's is probably of similar vintage.

Bengall was by far the most popular brand of straight razor sold in Australia, which isn't a bad thing because they're really good shavers. Hard to date the razor but with some searching it shouldn't be to hard to find when Gillespies operated in Deniliquin. There are many variants of etching on Bengall razors being sold in Australia and elsewhere. There was even a thread on it somewhere.

Hi Kyle I'm from Queensland. I have a few Bengalls. Yours looks rather borderline whether or not to restore. It depends on how deep any pitting on the edge goes. I agree that yours appears to be from the 20's.
