Please Help - am I in the wrong?

so i sold this 1906 single ring on ebay a few weeks ago. the buyer indicated he wanted to return it because the head base was bent at the point it attached is to barrel. i am sorry, i am just not seeing it. please take a look and let me know if i am just missing something. also, i assume the buyer is probably a B&B member, so i am not trying to throw anyone under the bus. help me out.

i did notice one side of the top plate was a little higher than the other side, barely. once i put in a blade (see pictures), that gap disappeared.

what do you think?

for what its worth, i have shaved with this razor twice with no issues.

In the top, left picture there does appear to be some minor misalignment.

But nothing that appears out of the ordinary, i.e. it could have come from the factory that way. And, considering it's over 100 years old, it could be considered a development from normal use.

It sounds like you have someone with buyer's remorse - someone who's regretted the purchase for whatever reason and is now trying to find a way out.

If those photos (or other photos that showed that) or a description of the gap were in the ad, it seems that you would be on solid ground that the razor is as it was represented.

If not, you need to decide whether you want to go through the eBay process if the buyer files a complaint or whether you just want to refund the money and auction it again.

Right or wrong isn't going to matter a whole lot to eBay. Their dispute resolution process will favor the buyer if it comes to that. It is in your best interests to accept the return graciously, and hopefully earn positive feedback.
If the buyer really wants you to accept the return and get a refund, they can force it out of you, and are more likely to leave poor feedback for allowing it to come to that.

These things are always if-fy, a case of one person's opinion over another's. You are probably better off my friend to just let it go, return the thing and call it square, don't give anyone a cause for complaint. It just isn't worth the bad publicity. You may very well be right but you are a seller dealing with the fickle public and remember the first rule of success in public relations, the customer may not always be right but your reputation as a seller is what you want to protect here, not try to hammer out who is right or wrong. All you stand to lose is maybe a shipping fee and you can sell the razor again, don't let it get in the way of your life.

sorry, i guess i should have said in my original post that i have already issued a refund (less the $2 shipping i paid). that isnt the issue, and i am not going to risk negative feedback over a pi$$ing contest. i was just taken a back by it. in the original complaint, he said 'you obviously dont know anything about safety razors'. based on that, i figured i missed something pretty badly and felt pretty bad about it.

then it came in the mail today, and i was kinda scratching my head about the issue. i think the previous poster was correct, buyers remorse.

oh well, i will just repost it or put in on BST. no biggie, just wanted to see if that very small gap was really that big of deal. like i said, i already refunded it.
