Platinum Strangelet Super Sharps by PAA

Second use of the PAA Stranglet blade

Funny blade. Sharpness and smoothness dropped but still comfortable. It struggles on the heavier growth in the first pass but smoothes out throughout the shave. Result was a BBS with light sting on the alum.

I’m killing three birds with one stone. This post will be in the December boar and my Raw thread.

Raw razor with A plate
Zenith Big Scrubby
A&E Face Spackle
Tried the new PAA blade first and had the Personna Super Platinum for backup. I went to the backup after the first pass. The PAA blade just isn’t for me. I experienced the same results as before. Isn’t there an old saying about that?

It's all good if the blades don't work. I'm sure there's plenty more that your skin prefers.
Although one wet shaver with heavy growth is using the blades for 10 shaves and still enjoys it. Confusing but blades are so subjective, haha

That’s why I hope others give the blade a try. I just watched a video where the star of the show liked the blade. There are quite a few blades that perform better for me. I’m not going to go through unnatural acts to make this blade work for me. I hope it proves otherwise for others. I’m a supporter for small business.

I've used three of these blades now. Four shaves each blade, but as I wear a full beard, I'm only doing my neck and upper cheeks every day, the back of my neck every three or four days. They feel sharper than my Voskhods, and more forgiving than my Bic Platinums. Basically, they feel a lot like a Gillette Platinum to me, which is fine by me as they have been one of my favorite blades since I started DE shaving.

Used the PAA blade for the 6th use today.

Paired with GC84, it felt less sharp/smooth than before. Strange because it felt so great on the 5th use but suddenly dropped the comfort on the 6th. I did face lather instead of the usual bowl lathering and that could've been the variable. Regardless, I didn't enjoy the shave today. I might try to extend another blade but for now, my rule with PAA blade is 5 uses and gone.

I’m glad the blade is working well for some folks. I very rarely use a blade for more than 3 shaves. I don’t want my blades handed down from generation to generation.

I was skeptical because my favorite blades - Perma-Sharp and Feather - have been developed by blade specialists over long periods of time. But after a few weeks in my Razor Emporium revamped Gillette Model 195/Fatboy and Toggle, I think the Strangelet blades are excellent. For me they are much smoother than Feather, and maybe a little smoother than Perma-Sharp, and about the sharpness of Perma-Sharp, so not as sharp as Feather. For me they are good for four shaves, so the same as Perma-Sharp and maybe one more shave than Feather. I like the packaging and that there is a only a small amount of glue. It is now a third blade I will use - I like having another choice and another blade in my rotation.

Have tested the blades for som time. By my opinion this blade is not sharp. Its very overpriced compared to its performance.
I finished 1.5 shaves with a Stranglet. I'm hoping it was a dud but it didn't feel very sharp. The 2nd attempted shave was with 6 days growth on setting 6 of a Flexi and it just felt like I was scraping my face and no hair really being removed. I swapped out to a trusty GSB and finished out my shave.

I'm going to go through a couple more blades before I write them off and just hope the first one out was a dud. If not maybe I'll give some away for testing.

I guarantee the wheel has not been reinvented here with these blades. PAA doesn't have a factory that turns our razor blades. One of the big company makes these blades and they are most likely identical to some other blade with a different name on them that can be bought for half the price. A lot of hype over a normal blade in a different wrapper. Don't fall for it.

PAA continues to cause controversy, which is some of the best free advertising you can get.😆

The blades seem gimmicky, which is pretty on-brand for them. Like others have said I would try a tuck, but not a hundred.
They don't make anything I can't live without. I don't like carnival barkers, nor do I trust them. PAA and Razor Emporium use the same hype to sell mediocre products.

This info was found at the bottom of their long description.

"Manufactured in China, Made From Imported Swedish Steel
[Note: If there were actually more than just one Blade Manufacturer in the USA and was willing to work closely with a small US artisan we would have gleefully went that route.]"

Does this mean that since they weren't able to gleefully work with a USA blade manufacturer they dourly worked with a Chinese blade manufacturer?
Typical ruse that they're well known for.
